What a Volunteer Does

Our volunteers give us a great deal of help usually by proofreading articles and providing valuable advice. Because of cultural differences it is sometimes necessary to research aspects of an article in order to explain or describe matters correctly. The Internet is a wealth of information in this connection.

1. Proofreading

Our articles are written by highly qualified editors but usually require revision by a native English speaker so as to ensure that grammar, phraseology and syntax are correct. With the help of our volunteers our articles become more comprehensible.

To complete this process we e-mail an article to the volunteer who will proofread it and return an edited version in Word format. Normally texts should be retuned within seven working days, with any alterations highlighted in a different color so that they can be noted by the original author.

2. Advising

Through e-mail, we may also ask for your valued advice on our programs or on specific items of topical interest, such as, for example, the recent floatation of Chinese currency or the effect of Bird Flu on tourism. With an English-speaker's point of view, and using the volunteer's kind thoughts and suggestions, we are able to ensure that our web site is more practical and approachable.
