Algeria Highlights

Welcome to Algiers, the capital city of Algeria. When you arrive, you will find your guide at the arrival hall and then be transferred to the well selected hotel by a private comfortable car. After checking in, you can take a short rest. If you arrive early, walking around the city freely will be a good idea.

In the afternoon, you will be guided to visit Notre Dame d’Afrique and Musée National du Bardo. Notre Dame d’Afrique, located on a hill of Algiers, seems like an Arabic style mosque. Wandering in this mosque, you will have a feeling of comfort and sustenance. Musée National du Bardo (Closed on Fridays) is a unique museum with a prehistoric hall and a human development hall. After entering the arch of this museum, you will begin to explore the history of ancient Roman and Phenician.

Today you will be taken to the Roman Site of Tipaza, which is around 70 kilometers (43 miles) from the capital Algiers. Here, you will see the ancient Rome Colosseum, grave, bathhouse and etc. Tipaza was built around 800 AD. Although the ancient city no longer exists now, you can still imagine how magnificent it was in that era. Then we will have a stop on the way to visit the UNESCO Heritage of the royal mausoleum of Mauritania (Tombeau de la Chrétienne), which is the largest surviving Roman tomb in North Africa. 

After finishing the visit, take a flight to Annaba. When you arrive at Annaba Airport, your local guide will meet you at the arrival hall and take you to the hotel.

The highlights today are the Hippo Regius and the Cathedral of St. Augustine.

After breakfast, your professional guide will first accompany you to visit Hippo, which is the ancient name of the morden Annaba city. Phoenicians came here in the 12th century BC and 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) south of the city lies the ruins of the Roman city of Hippo. It was also the center of Western Christianity and many conciliarisms were held here.

Later we will visit the St. Augustin Basilica. It is said that an arm bone of St. Augustine’s was buried in the statue inside the cathedral. In the late afternoon, we will head to Constantine, which is the 3rd biggest city in Algeria.

This morning, we will visit the Roman Site of Tiddis. It is a Romanized town built by Romans, which acted as shield in ancient times. You will be accompanied to walk along the main street and after entering a grand door, you will embark on a mysterious Tiddis exploration tour. After visiting the Roman Site of Tiddis, we will go back to Constantine and have a city sightseeing trip. Your guide will accompany you to visit the Cirta Museum, the suspension bridges, the Kasbah, as well as the Palace of Ahmed Bey, etc. 

The Kasbah in Algiers, a UNESCO World Heritage, is a typical Medina or Islamic style town and one of the most remarkable coastal landscapes in the Mediterranean. With the castles, ancient monasteries, Ottoman palaces, as well as the traditional urban architecture and the deeply rooted ethnic values, it is a good place that prompts people to look back.

Today we will head to visit Timgad and Lambaesis. After driving for around 1.5 hours, we will have a stop at Madghacen (Ancient Numidian Tomb), which is a royal mausoleum of Numidian kings.

After finishing the visit, we will continue to drive for around 50 minutes to Timgad, which was a Roman Military Base in the ancient times. Its design is excellent and shows the heyday of ancient Roman urban planning. Even today, standing here, you will be amazed by this special designed military base. 

Lambaesis is 27 kilometers (17 miles) west to Timgad. It was the campsite of the 3rd Roman legion, consisting of the triumphal arch, temple, aqueduct, bathhouse, etc. You will also admire some ancient items at the museum in the village.

The highlights today are the UNESCO Site of Djemila, which is a religious resort in Algeria, with characteristic squares, temples, palaces and the Triomphe Gate. It’s a typical example of Romanesque city built in the mountains, making Algeria own one of the most spectacular Roman ruin in the world. Afterwards, we will head to Setif to visit the Museum of Archaeology, which is small but very decent, and the grand mosaic called ‘The Triumph of Dionysos’. Afterwards, you will be escorted to check into the hotel to have a good rest.

Today you will be escorted to the airport to take a flight back to Algiers. After arrival, your guide will meet you at the airport and take you to the hotel. If time permits, we will take you to visit the Museum of Archaeology and Islamic Art.
