Pyramids of Giza

Giza Pyramids Independent Trip by Public Transportation

Tour Code: TEG202
The start point of this tour is Museum House Hostel, which is situated in downtown Cairo. Across from the Egyptian Museum, its superb location, which is also within walking distance of Nile River, Tahrir Squar, as well as metro and bus stations, presents travelers with convenient ways to achieve their well-planned trips.

You will first walk about 4 minutes to Sadat Metro Station next to the Egyptian Museum and take Metro Line 2 bound for El Monib. Then get off at Giza after passing by 6 stations. The metro ticket fare in Egypt is charged based on how many stations you traveled: EGP3 for 1 to 9 stations; EGP5 for 10 to 16 stations; and EGP7 for more than 16 stations.

Friendly Tips: It is necessary to prepare some change as metro stations only accept EGP and the ticket is cheap. If you plan a Cairo trip lasting for days and metro is your preferred transport, it is recommended to buy a metro card at EGP25, which costs the same as a normal ticket.

Leaving Giza Station, you are still 4 miles away from the scenic area of Giza Pyramids. Public microbus and taxi are all good choices to reach Giza Plateau. There are two entrance gates at Giza Plateau: The Main Entrance & Ticket Office in the north and the Sphinx Entrance & Ticket Office in the east, opposite the KFC. Please note that the microbus will take you near to the Sphinx Entrance while Cairo Pass is only sold at Main Entrance & Ticket Office.

The scenic area of Giza Pyramids is open from 08:00 to 16:00 every day. You can also buy an extra ticket to enter the Great Pyramid of Khufu, which is closed from 12:00 to 13:00. If you want to explore this splendid pyramid, be sure to schedule your time before.

Once entering the scenic area, you will meet many people asking if you want a camel ride. It takes about 20 minutes to walk from the entrance to the pyramid. It is not a long journey but it could be an interesting experience if you try a ride. The choice depends on your needs. If you decide to ride, it is recommended to bargain with them as they often give the travelers a higher price. Besides, never forget to bring some change because they usually don't give you back.

After the visit, you can not only go back to downtown Cairo by the same route you come, but also head to the Postal Service Office on Al Haram Street, which is also the Ramses Bus Station, after leaving the scenic area through Main Entrance. Here you can take air-conditioned buses No. 355 or 357 back to the downtown. The bus trip is 45 minute to 1 hour and the ticket fare is about EGP2. Finally, you will get off at Abdel Menem Riyad Station, which is near the Egyptian Museum, and walk back to Museum House Hostel. There are many decent restaurants that accommodates to travelers' taste and cafes nearby. You can pick a preferred one to get refreshed before going back to your hotel.
