Honduras Cultural Exploration

Welcome to Honduras! Upon your arrival at the San Pedro Sula Airport, your bilingual driver will wait for you at the exit and then drive you to the hotel in downtown area. The hotel is very close to the City Mall San Pedro Sula. For the rest time of the day, you could stroll around there and enjoy some local food by yourself.

In the morning, the guide and driver will take you to visit a famous local market, the Mrcado Guamilito, where you will find many interesting handicrafts. Then we will walk to the Museum of Anthropology and History to learn more history and culture about this city.

In the afternoon, we will drive to Copan. After around 3 hours’ drive along the beautiful countryside road, we will come to the picturesque village of Copan. Located in the Mesoamerican cultural region with many unknown ruins, it is an archaeological site of the Mayan civilization.

Today comes the highlights part of your trip. You will get immersed in the Maya Civilization for a whole day. In the morning, accompanied by your guide, you will visit the three main sites of the Copan Ruinas, including the Hieroglyphic Stairway, the Mayan Ball Court and the Sepulchers. In the afternoon, we will firstly visit the Sculpture Museum, where many original monuments are preserved. Afterwards, we will visit the Museo de Arqueologia and the Rosalila Temple.

This morning, we will keep discovering more Maya civilization in Las Sepulturas, a residential group site of the Mayan royal families. You may also hear some stories between the Mayan group and the Lenca group from the local historians. In the afternoon, we will have a leisure walk inside the Macaw Mountain Bird Park & Nature Reserve. You will encounter many fascinating birds here.

Today, we will drive to the Lake Yojoa region, which is located in the central Honduras. We will drive through the green mountainous roads for about 4 hours, and then enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Pulhapanzak Waterfall. Afterwards, we will continue to drive around 1 hour to the hotel located near the Lake Yojoa. After settling down, you can stroll around to enjoy the natural landscape.

After a hearty breakfast at hotel, we will take a half day hiking tour in the Parque Nacional Cerro Azul Meambar. There are three different trails, 0.3km, 0.7km and 7.0km for you to choose from. Hiking through the cloud forest, you will see many kinds of birds, plants, trees and flowers. In the afternoon, we will move on to Tegucigalpa. On the way, we will take a visit to the Taulabe natural caves and the former capital city of Comayagua.

Today, we will explore Tegucigalpa, the capital city of Honduras. Follow your guide, you will first visit the Basilica de Suyapa in the modern and colonial districts as well as its surrounding streets to know more about the local history and culture. In the afternoon, we will drive to the charming old colonial towns, Santa Lucia and Valle de Angeles. When passing by the Picacho Hill, you will have a glance of the huge statue of Jesus. Strolling around the Santa Lucia and Valle de Angeles, you will find many delicate and ethnic handicrafts made by local artisans.
