South Island Exploration

Welcome to Christchurch! You will be picked up at airport by our local representative and then transferred to the hotel for check-in. The rest time is yours to have a rest or stroll around.

In the morning, we will depart from Christchurch by the Tranzalpine Senic Train. Along the way you could enjoy the beautiful view of the Southern Alps. Upon arrival, travel to Hokitika by coach and then onward to Franz Josef where you can hike or take a helicopter to admire the spectacular glaciers. Stay overnight at Franz Josef.

After breakfast, we will take a bus along the west coast to explore the spectacular Fox Glacier. Continue drive through lakes and ice-covered mountains, to get to Queenstown, the "capital of adventure" in New Zealand.

Today you can explore Queenstown on your own. You can take part in some exciting outdoor activities, or just enjoy the breathtaking natural scenery. Your coach captain and tour leader could also arrange some optional activities for you if you need. In the evening we will board the century-old steamship TSS Earnslaw, cruise on Lake Wakatipu, and get to the Walter Peak Highland Ranch. We'll have dinner there and then visit the farm. Finally we'll take the ship back to Queenstown.

After breakfast we will drive about 25 minutes from Queenstown to Gold Rush Town - Arrowtown, which is famous for its historic buildings, gold rush sites and colorful autumn foliage forests. After visiting the Lakes District Museum, we will continue our journey to Te Anau. After checking into the hotel upon arrival, you can enjoy the picturesque town on your own.

On the 6th day, we will head to Milford Fjord in the morning to enjoy the wonderful views of the west coast of the South Island. Upon arrival we will take a cruise into the fjord where you can enjoy the food onboard while enjoying the natural scenery. You will have an opportunity to see Bowen Falls, Mitre Peak, as well as lovely animals like sea lions and penguins. After the cruise, we will return to Te Anau.

Today we're heading to Dunedin, the second largest city on the South Island. The city's architecture style is typical of Scotland and your guide will take you on a tour of its many historic buildings and local museums, to learn more about its history and culture. You will have dinner in the evening and spend a wonderful "Scottish evening".

Today we will leave Dunedin and go northward. On the way we will pass through Oamaru, a major port city famous for its historic limestone buildings. Drive along the winding Waitaki River, we will arrive at the Mt. Cook finally, New Zealand's highest peak. If weather permits, you can experience the Scenic Flight at your own expense, overlooking the spectacular views of the Southern Alps. By the end of the day, we will head to the hotel in Twizel.

After having breakfast we will go to Lake Tekapo and visit the Church of the Good Shepherd and the Sheep Dog Statue. Then drive 2 hours to Christchurch to visit the popular attractions in the city. We will prepare a warm farewell dinner for you tonight to conclude our New Zealand 10 days itinerary.
