Day01 Beijing
Mutianyu Great Wall
In the morning, your private tour guide will pick you up at your hotel at 08:30 and drive you to Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, which is 70 km northeast of central Beijing. This section has unique characteristics and is surrounded by breathtakingly beautiful scenery. We will take the national first-rate cable car up, have around 1-2 hours walk on the wall, and then come back down via the cable car. Lunch is on your arrangement. Climbing the Great Wall is an energy-consuming activity and you may have a late lunch, so we kindly suggest you have a big breakfast at your hotel or prepare some snacks in advance. Generally the lunch will be around 14:00.Your tour guide will advise you on restaurants nearby. On the way back to downtown Beijing, we will drive by the Bird's Nest (Olympic National Stadium), where you can take pictures of the exterior before going back to the hotel.

Our clients on the Great Wall
Our tour guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel at 09:00 and drive to Tiananmen Square. Name after the Tiananmen Gate, the remarkable Tiananmen Square is the largest city center square in the world. Here you can find the Tiananmen Tower, Monument to the People's Heroes, Great Hall of the People and Chairman Mao Zedong Memorial Hall. To the north of the Tiananmen Square, we will walk to the magnificent Forbidden City, which is the world's largest palace complex and covers 74 hectares. It was the former imperial palace for twenty-four emperors during the Ming and Qing dynasties and now is known as the Palace Museum, housing over a million rare and notable works of art. Lunch will be arranged on your own; however, our guide will be more than happy to advise you on good restaurants. Following the morning activities, we will pay a short visit to the National Grand Theatre to appreciate the beauty of China's modern architecture. And then continue the trip with a visit to the Temple of Heaven, which is the most representative sacrificial building of ancient China. The exterior park is now a diverse and remarkable gathering place for locals. After the private trip is completed, we will transfer you back to your hotel.

If you go to Mutianyu Great Wall, I would recommend Mutianyu Great Wall Hotel, Lotus Tai and Zhong Qing Villa which are near the Great Wall.

We are planning on a trip to Beijing for a week for a family of 6.
We’d love to get some recommendations for daily itineraries, where to stay, best way to get around, point of interests, night markets, etc... thanks!

I’d like to share some suggestions:
For scenic spots, you can’t miss the Forbidden City, Tian’anmen Square, Badaling Great Wall, and local Hutongs!
To get around and for shopping, you can go to Wangfujing Street and Qianmen Street.
For night markets, you can go to Guijie Night Market near Beixinqiao Subway Station of line 5.

It’s not recommended, since as I know, it takes at least 3h minutes for a single trip to Mutianyu great wall from wangfujing.
You can pay a fast visit to Badaling Great Wall. Take a taxi to Deshengmen within 15 minutes. Then, catch bus 877 directly to Badaling Great Wall, which takes about 1h 30 minutes.
After visiting the great wall, you are suggested to back around 1:00pm.

First of all, it is can be tight to finish them all in a day. Anyway, you should go in this route: Badaling - Ming Tombs - Mutianyu

Bus no. 879 connects Badaling Wall and the Ming Tombs. After visiting, take a taxi to Ming Tombs subway station and take Changping Line to Beishaowa. Then change to bus no. H54 to Yujiayuan. After that, u need to change to bus no. H23 to MTY Roundabout and walk to the wall.

Is going to Mutianyu Great Wall by bus recommendable?
We're leaving from Beijing Main Railway Station and want to go to the Mutianyu section of the wall. We don't speak Chinese, is it still manageable by bus?

Our alternative would be getting a Taxi Driver for a Day that takes us there, but Public Transport would be way cheaper, so I want to weigh the Pro's and Con's of both options.
Thank you in advance!

You can take the public bus to the destination. You can take metro line 2 to Qianmen Station, Exit C. Then you may walk around 30 meters southwards to Qianmen Tourist Distribution Centre, where you can take a direct bus to Mutianyu Great Wall. This bus departs at 9:00. The ticket fare is CNY100/person including the entrance fee of the Great Wall and the guide on the bus. If you cannot catch the bus at that time, you are advised to charter a car to the scenic spot directly, since you may need to have several transfers to take the regular buses. It may probably take around CNY800 to charter a car for a round trip.

Thank you very much! Is it possible to get a ticket for this bus in advanced? I'm scared, that the bus is full if we buy the ticket before the ride.
Answered by Susan | Jul. 18, 2017 03:32

As I know, you need to buy this ticket when you get on the bus. Therefore, you may get there as early as you can.
