    Fantastic-all in one day!
Our guide Tracy was very knowledgeable and friendly. She led the group very well. She took pride in her work. The minibus driver was very good. We did so much in one day it was brilliant. We did: Terracotta Army for couple of hours, we had a Chinese lunch which was in a traditional restaurant and was big portions! So filling, I couldn't finish what I ordered. You pay separately for what you have, which is a nice touch. It's no problem at all. Toilets were available continuously throughout the day, several times at EVERY stop, so no need to worry about this. (When in China, carry tissues and hand sanitizer just in case!). We then went to the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, then the Xi'an City Wall and Drum Tower - you get half an hour to walk part of this (this is enough time). Then you go to the city centre - you can choose to get off here and make your own way back or you can choose to be driven back to your hotel, totally up to you. I choose to get off (as did all but one of the group) as you are dropped off right by the Muslim Quarter. The market (bazaar) here is a must to visit I have to say. There is so much street food to try and all very cheap. I then got the Metro (for 2 yuan!! ) to the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda as Tracy reccommended and this was very pretty and there is the biggest and longest pedestrian street I've ever walked (I didn't walk of all of it as it's so long!!! ) but here it is all lit up with Chinese lanterns and the trees are so beautiful. I'm definitely grateful to Tracy for encouraging me to do this. She was most helpful to type in my phone the name of the metros I had to take to get there. I then went one further and crammed in seeing the Tang Paradise, which was within walking distance from this pedestrian street (you will know when you're on it). A very beautiful area indeed. Thank you Tracy and China Travel Guide - you were all fantastic, just as all your Trip Advisor reviews say you are. I am delighted I booked with you. I reccommend without any hesitation! Do it!! Less

    Excellent 16 day private tour
Travel China Guide (TCG) arranged a private 16 day tour for us visiting Shanghai - Beijing and the Great Wall - Pingyao - Xian - Chengdu - Guilin and Yangshuo. I have no hesitation in recommending them. They were good value when compared with other Chinese tour operators and much better value than well known UK companies who also priced our itinerary.

Kelly Wang was our excellent travel consultant who I dealt with by email over a 2-3 month period in autumn 2018 to develop the itinerary that we wanted. Our tour was completed in October 2019. We had a fairly detailed draft itinerary but Kelly helped us refine it and booked all the internal high speed rail travel, hotels, activities and of course arranged for the guides and drivers who escorted us. Kelly even came to our rescue when we had an incident at one of our hotels and decided to move on early. She efficiently re-arranged travel to our next location and negotiated with the hotel. Kelly even came to our rescue when we had an incident at one of our hotels and decided to move on early. She efficiently re-arranged travel to our next location and negotiated with the hotel. We booked our flights to China and extensions to the tour that took us to Hong Kong and Singapore.

The arrangements all worked well. The guides were all waiting for us at the airport or train stations and made sure we got on the right trains as moved around the country. They were all friendly and helpful. Several arranged extra activities that we only found out about when we arrived. Most spoke and understood English well. They were knowledgeable although a couple were relatively young and inexperienced. All the cars we hand their drivers were good apart from one car that was a bit scruffy. All the drivers were courteous and also went out of their way on occasions to take us to places not on our original itinerary.

The highlights of our tour were Beijing and the Great Wall, Xian and the Terracotta Army and Chengdu and the Panda Research Station. If I was planning the trip again I would skip Pingyao - ancient walled city but very touristy - and the Li River cruise - pretty if the weather is good but another tourist magnet.

My other advice would be watch out for battery operated scooters in the cities, they are everywhere and you don't hear them coming! Do travel by the world class high speed trains and do it in first - it's not much extra and is much more comfortable as the trains are busy. Use at least 4* hotels and think carefully about any that are described as boutique, historic or character hotels. They may be different but not alway in the best way.

The TCG website has a wealth of information that's really useful for research.

Finally, do go and visit China. You'll not be disappointed First world, third world, rich history and culture, stunning scenery, beautiful buildings, thousands of ugly modern apartment blocks, traditional skills and cutting edge technology. It's got it all. Less

A day well spent thanks to our accommodating tour guide, Lola
I booked this trip directly through the Travel China Guide website just the day before I wanted to go. My 60s+ parents and I (20s) had one full day in Xi'an and we wanted to make the best of it - and I would say this tour really did the job well. We were a small group of about 8 people leaving plenty of space in our van (important for napping after the drive back into the city!).

I think it was nicely paced giving an appropriate enough time in each stop. Lola was our tour guide and her English was clear, albeit a little bit soft at times (loud enough for me but less some of the elderly on the trip). Otherwise, she was the perfect guide for such a day. She was patient when some of us wandered around to take pictures, she never rushed us, and she was very knowledgable about each site. Most importantly, she was accommodating!

I'm embarrassed to say that my mom got separated almost immediately upon entry to the terra-cotta museum (watch out - it's SO CROWDED). I have a ... More

I'm embarrassed to say that my mom got separated almost immediately upon entry to the terra-cotta museum (watch out - it's SO CROWDED). I have a Chinese sim card so while I went off to find my mom Lola kept me updated about the group's location on WeChat (Chinese messenger app). In the end, it was Lola who called me to say she found my mom. Since I missed most of the terra-cotta tour, Lola let me walk around on my own to see everything more slowly while the rest had lunch.

While I really want to take one star off for the stop with the "farmer" who found the terra-cotta warriors (any prior Google search will inform you that this is not exactly true).. I can't bring myself to do that due to me being so impressed with Lola. The tour's itinerary describes the tour finishing at the Muslim market. By the end of the day, my dad was tired but my mom and I were still eager to explore. Lola accommodated us even further by allowing us to split. She arranged the bus driver to drop my mom and I off at the market with 2 other members of the group before my dad was dropped at the hotel. Tip - the market was definitely worth an additional 2-3 hour walk around to the see the famous Bell Tower, souvenir shopping, and street food tasting! Lola did me one last favor later that night when I asked her to check on one of the group members who accompanied me to the Muslim market. I had called a Didi (Chinese Uber) for him to his hotel, but I still wanted to check if he returned ok. Lola called his hotel on my request and followed up with me to assure me all was well. Honestly, that's what I call amazing customer service. She just went above and beyond.

Overall, I'd recommend this tour for anyone on a quick trip to Xi'an. It's informative and interesting and hits all the must go to places for a very reasonable price. Less

It was a very wise and rewarding decision when I chose Travel China Guide over 2 other companies to assist me in planning our epic tour in China. First, I was a returning customer; Second, they offer us the best itinerary; Third, price was exceptionally good to resist which included discounts for returning client plus EBD.
Lexi, our travel consultant was with me along the way, separated by miles seemed no problem in putting together the tour everyone in my group immensely enjoyed with endless wonder and awe the China we never know and have no idea what she had in the waiting for us all to experience.
All the hotels booked were 4-5 stars, breakfasts were excellently tailored to both western and Asian, the places we visited were a dream and unbelievable if only we were not there to see them.

Small Group to Beijing, Xian, Chengdu, Shanghai
Travel China Guide provided a superb service that could not have been better, at a reasonable price. We would book another tour with them again or recommend them to any of our friends, enthusiastically and without hesitation.

We started planning our trip about a year ahead, which allowed us to book our travel at favorable rates, qualify for trusted traveler programs, apply for visas, and learn as much as we could about the places we would visit without time pressure.

Our group consisted of 11 people, all English-speaking, and highly compatible. All hotels provided superb service and all the restaurants chosen were equally excellent.

There was a tour guide at each stop in our tour, and the handoffs from one to the other were managed seamlessly. There was a spread in age and physical fitness in our group, and every tour guide made patiently sure that everyone was safe and comfortable enjoying each of our excursions.

We particularly appreciate the friendly care provided by Maggie in Beijing. She spent hours helping us track an iPad that we had thought lost, making calls and assisting the hotel efforts, which were ultimately successful.

We had been concerned about drinking water, but the tour operator and the hotel provided abundant bottled water each day. We used this for brushing teeth, and avoided salads or fruit that could not be peeled, and experienced no stomach problems during or after our tour.

Foreign (or even local) credit cards turned out not to be as widely accepted as we hoped, but it turned out that ATMs were widely available, offered a fair exchange rate, and did not seem to charge a bank fee. It is worth shopping for a US ATM or debit card, because US fees vary.

Food was uniformly excellent. In Beijing, we found the Baoyuan Dumplings restaurants (cash only) to be extraordinary. It was a short walk from our hotel but close to heaven.

As tourists, we obviously only saw the best of China, but the best of China is hugely impressive. They have clearly invested the wealth generated by foreign investment and trade wisely, and generated massive infrastructure. Everywhere we looked was gleaming new and spotlessly clean or lovingly restored (and spotlessly clean).

Most exciting of many exciting experiences: take the maglev train in Shanghai to the airport, going at 300 km/hr on our trip (but reputed to be able to go up to 450 km/hr). Less

China; Beijing to Shanghai with Linda, Lily and Kevin with Travel China Guide company
Travel China Guide gave us a most excellent experience on our first trip to China in May 2019.
The experience was remarkable and more than we had hoped for.
The sites and activities were outstanding.
We saw the usual renowned historic places plus some more personal experiences like a home cooked meal in a private home.
All of our guides; Linda, Lily, and Kevin were EXCELLENT and very personable. They were open, funny and we felt like we developed friendships along the way. Their English was excellent too.
This tour changed our image of China and her people for the better.
We hope they can someday get visas to visit us.
(And we certainly hope our political leaders will improve relationships.) Hotels and food were consistently first class.
Lots of walking which we enjoy, and our guide even arranged for foot massages!
Minimal downsides: too much traffic, too many people in the cities, some days pollution and air quality ... More

This tour ticks all the boxes and more
Having just come back from this tour, I would highly recommend it to anyone from 10 years upwards. It covered all the interesting sights with so much extra added. The tour guides were outstanding. Candy in Beijing was a real one off, warm and funny. Tracy in Xi’an was elegant and sophisticated, Valerie was so helpful in Shanghai giving us tips for our extra days there ourselves. The experiences were excellent getting to meet real farmers and families. The meals that were included were outstanding. The accommodation was great. We quickly made friends with our groups and had some good laughs and have exchanged emails. I would do this trip again. I have to end by saying a big thank you to Emily, who was my contact person, who helped me with all the planning . She always answered my emails and it was a highlight actually meeting her in person in Xi’an. She made this trip for me. Thank you travel China guide. I will definitely recommend you to all my friends and famil.

    Greatest experience
I started by contacting the company to book a private tour for me and my coworker. All information was received promptly and precise. Every question was answered in great detail. All follow up information was given and received in a timely manner. The communications was professional. Our tour guide, Barry, arrived early and was waiting in the lobby of our hotel. Upond seeing us he greated us in a down to earth, friendly and professional manner. Travel to the tour site was comfortable and informative. Berry supplied information about different locations while enroute to the Great Wall. Once at the tour site we never felt rushed. Barry was with us every step of out tour.

I would most definitely book a private tour again especially if Barry is my guide. Thanks.....

Excellent and professional guide offered by this company
First I want everyone to know I am not getting paid to write this review.

What an experience, joining this tour group ensured that you are being taken cared of. Excellent on point drivers and very professional and knowledgeable guide is hired by this company, all the tickets are arranged and you only have to do what is told, there is a lot of walking (about 4km) in the first day in forbidden city so be warned, especially in a huge crowd surrounding the area so be prepared for that, the meals they arranged is excellent, however the guide will order the food for you in advanced to save time so if there is specific request let them know in advance, language can be a problem in China but if there is any question, just ask you guide. We will recommend this tour group for anyone that want to visit China in the future!

    A TRIP OF A LIFETIME
My wife and I recently toured China as part of a family group.

The tour was magnificent, although strenuous for me as a senior, and covered many of the sites and cities we had heard of over the years. Hotels were beyond our expectations, and cheap, from what we experienced in North America. Hotel meals were generally excellent but we preferred to eat in local cafes; this was much cheaper and not at all difficult as most cafes had pictures of their menus posted outside, and staff were always helpful. In fact we were sometimes overwhelmed with how friendly and helpful Chinese people are.
On the Yangste cruise, where we were the only Westerners, several crew members spoke some English, and the public announcements were often repeated in English or the benefit of non-Mandarin speakers. This cruise was spectacular giving much insight into daily life in China, and culminating in the magnificent 3-Gorges Dam.
In Shanghai we went on our own with a bus tour of the city, a river cruise, and walking.I must add that I felt safer walking a night in Shanghai than I have felt in many North American cities. The Shanghai Bund (river walk), night lights on the Huangou river, and the Shanghai tower should be on everyone's bucket list.

I just wish we had more time available! Less

All the Guides who led these tours were absolutely professional persons: knowledgeable, informative, helpful but also friendly, lovely, charming - and discrete.

In one occasion (tour of the Longji Rice Fields) I had one of the best meals I have ever had - anywhere in the world - at a modest family restaurant in a remote village. I really appreciated the chance TravelChinaGuide gave me to sample authentic, not tourist-oriented or tourist-capturing, Chinese food.

Some of the places I visited with TravelChinaGuide are remote and pristine places of stunning beauty and impressive cultural significance - and this is not merit of TravelChinaGuide, but their merit is to offer these small-group tours which allow us tourists to really take in the beauty of the places and savor and perceive people's culture without invading their territories with big, loud hordes of tourists.

Their train booking and ticketing service, which I have also used a few times, both with delivery of the tickets at a Hotel and with pickup at a ticket window in a Railway Station, is impeccable as well. Less

We booked a two-day tour of Beijing which included the Forbidden City, Great Wall, Summer Palace as well as a few other amazing attractions around the city. Our tour guide and driver was very professional, and the tour guide's knowledge was excellent. I'd highly recommend Travel China Tours, it also makes a huge difference having a local tour guide. The tour was for my parents, my wife and myself.

Just something to add, the tour guide went beyond the extra mile... my dad lost his cellphone the previous evening while in a taxi. She managed to phone the person that had the phone and helped arrange it's retrieval.

We used Travel China Guide for a customised 15 day private tour of China for 4 people, and had the most amazing time.

This company is exceptional - I was nervous about using a foreign travel company, but once I started corresponding with Emily, everything quickly fell into place - despite me sending about 20 emails over the course of 4-5 months to tweak different parts of our tours.
Emily was so organised, the day tours and travel arrangements all worked without a hitch. They will also send you a letter to assist with your China visas. We used We Chat in China to communicate with the Guides, who were all brilliant.

No hesitation in recommending this company. (Note they trade as Xi'an Marco Polo International Travel Service).
