Day 1 Dali Arrival & Pick-up; Visit Dali Ancient City
Welcome to choose this 3-day Dali tour. With its laid-back pace and bohemian atmosphere, Dali has long been a favorite among backpackers. Upon arrival, your local guide and the experienced driver will meet you at the airport or railway station and escort you to the hotel we have pre-booked for you.
► Note: You can easily access Dali by direct flights from China’s major cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an, and Chengdu. Additionally, there are frequent high-speed trains from Kunming to Dali, with a travel time of just 2 hours.
After settling in, we’ll head straight to Dali Ancient City, which has watched over this land for over 6 centuries. Today, its historical buildings house an array of craft shops selling local handicrafts like tie-dye fabrics and wood carvings, alongside food stalls offering regional snacks, such as flower pastries and grilled milk fans. Follow your guide to ascend the South Gate Tower or Wuhua Tower for a sweeping view of the ancient city’s rooftops. Wander through the historic lanes of Foreigner Street and People’s Road, discovering a unique blend of Chinese temples and Christian churches - a testament to the cultural inclusiveness of this ancient crossroads.
Finally, your guide will escort you back to your hotel, or you are welcome to stay longer by yourself. As evening falls, Dali Ancient City reveals a different charm. Between 8 and 9 PM, you may come across a lively bonfire gathering. Just feel free to join in! Along the streets, you’ll find pop-up stalls run mostly by the young, selling everything from personal poetry and handmade postcards to craft cocktails. Even if you don’t buy anything, they’re often happy to chat and share their stories. Your hotel is just a 10-minute walk south of the ancient city.

Day 2 Visit Cangshan Mountain with Cable Car, Three Pagodas of Chongsheng Temple, Erhai Lake
This morning, your guide and the driver will meet you at the hotel lobby and accompany you to Cangshan Mountain. Board the cable car we have included for you, which will lift you above lush forests toward the mountainside. As you ascend, Erhai Lake unfolds in the distance like a vast sapphire mirror, Dali Ancient Town resembles miniature blocks below, and the Cangshan range stretches across the horizon like a blue-gray barrier. After disembarking, enjoy hiking along the plank trail, during which you can listen to the gentle babble of streams and birdsong, and enjoy a fresh perspective of Erhai Lake from above.
Then, we’ll take the cable car down and proceed to Chongsheng Temple, best known for its iconic Three Pagodas. Standing on the temple square, you’ll see the three towers arranged in a triangular formation against the backdrop of Cangshan Mountain. Remarkably, they have stood here for over 1,200 years without a deep foundation, and one of the pagodas once cracked during an earthquake, but later closed naturally.
As the afternoon light softens, we’ll head to Erhai Lake Ecological Corridor for the final and most romantic stop of the day. Stroll along the shoreline and watch the evening sun cast golden ripples across the water. If you visit between November and March, you may see flocks of red‑billed gulls migrating from Siberia, their white wings beautifully contrasting with the blue lake and lush trees, creating a truly cinematic scene. Finally, your guide and the driver will escort you back to your hotel.
► Tip: For Erhai Lake tour, bicycle rentals are available at your own expense. Whether you prefer to ride for one hour from the town to the lake, or just enjoy a short ride near the Erhai Lake Ecological Corridor, please let us know in advance if you are interested.
