Qianling Mausoleum, XianRoute 31 Day Historic Travel Experience of Qian County - Famen Temple
If you find you have a free day while in Xian, try taking tourist bus No. 2 at the south square of railway station to Qian County. The journey lasts about 2 hours (120 kilometers from Xian). Sites of particular interest here include the Qian Mausoleum (RMB45) and the Yongtai Princess Tomb (RMB26). A 2-hour visit is enough to take in the delicate murals, the emperor's tomb and all of the precious culture relics on display. Have a meal at the nearby restaurant if you like and then proceed to Famen Temple in the afternoon. We recommend about 3 hours to see the sights here. Then take tourist bus No. 2 (RMB25) back to Xian. The last bus departs from Qian County at 5:00 p.m.
Route 41 Day Xian Snack Trail
Xian is famous not only for its history and culture but also for its snacks that enjoy good reputation all over the country. People who come to Xian for the first time must taste Xian delicacies including the delicious Yang Rou Pao Mo (Crumbled Unleavened Bread Soaked in Mutton Stew), Qinzhen Lingpi (made of flour) and Chinese-style hamburger. Enjoying delicious food and learning about food culture adds joy to your journey.
There are two main places serving snacks near the City Hotel. One is Luomashi Pedestrian Street on Dongdajie Street beside the Xing Zhen Yuan Plaza. Not far away from the Bell Tower, it is a bustling area just like Wangfujing in Beijing or Nanjing Road in Shanghai. The street is jammed with stall-keepers selling cheaper clothes and flavored snacks. In addition, you will find restaurants and supermarkets such as WalMart scattered along the street. Another street, Moslem Street, is near the Drum Tower on Xidajie Street. You might find attractive snacks for the Hui Nation. (All dishes are made without pork). Time permitting, you might drop by the Great Mosque at the end of the road. It will give you a strong sense of the historic Muslim influence in Xi'an. The mosque is still active today so the prayer hall is not open to visitors. The small pedestrian streets nearby are lined with vendors selling Xi'an tourist souvenirs, tee shirts.
Forest of Stone Steles Museum, XianRoute 51 Day Culture Tour of Shuyuanmen - Forest of Stone Steles - Big Goose Pagoda Square
Depart from the City Hotel and walk south for 10 minutes. You will then find Shuyuanmen Street is just beside the street. This is an ancient street selling antiques and other treasures. This is a great place to collect souvenirs and crafts as gifts for friends and family. From here, you have two choices. Firstly, you may wish to proceed to about halfway down Shuyuanmen Street, from where you could climb the City Wall, beginning from one of these entrances. (For the detailed information of the City Wall, please refer to the above itinerary) Otherwise, you could walk all the way to the end of the road and visit the Stone Forest (¥45). The Forest of Stone Steles Museum holds a large amount of engraved stones dating from the Han Dynasty through to the Qing Dynasty. There are four main categories of texts and works: literature and philosophy, historical records, calligraphy and pictorial stones. The exhibition of stones charts the development of Chinese culture and cultural exchange with other countries.
In the afternoon, take tourist bus No. 8 at the Bell Tower and alight at the terminal stop. You can take a leisurely stroll here in the Big Goose Pagoda Square, which is lovely way to spend an afternoon. This is a newly-built square which is home to the largest musical fountain in Asia. The square and the surrounding sites have become must-see sites in Xian city.
