Hi. Is it a good time to visit Chengdu from 30/11/09 to 4/12/09? If not, which part of China will be good to visit?
Nov. 2,2009 19:52
Mr.Dungon replied:
If your destination is Chengdu city only , your travel dates are ok. But Jiuzhai valley and Huanglong area will be closed for visit that time. December is cold in most parts of China. As long as the sites are not closed for visit, it's no problem.

Is the hotel Tianfu Sunshine is near to Jinli Street? if not, how far? and can we walk from the hotel?
Sep. 30,2009 01:00
Ms.Lorna replied:
It takes about 15 to 20 minutes by car from Tianfu Sunshine hotel to Jinli Street. If you take a taxi, the taxi fee is about CNY15.00. Walk from the hotel to the street is not possible, too far between them.

It can not predict how many people will see the solar eclipse on Jul 22. It should be many of them including local residence, while it may not influence your schedule.

Here are some places that you can do shopping in Chengdu.
There is a big antiquities market close to the Green Ram Taoist Temple in the western city. Lots of communist relics, old porcelain dishes, jewellery, calligraphy equipment and also some Tibetan stuff can be found here. Do remember to bargain hard to get a proper price.
At the gate of the panda base inner Chengdu city, all sort of plush pandas and other panda trinkets are sold here. It is quite popular and welcomed by young girls.

The city of Leshan is about 1+ hours from Chengdu. I took the local bus & it was really crowded. There was no fixed schedule as well. As soon as it's full, it leaves. But, there are many buses, about 10-15 mins interval.
The Grand Buddha is quite a sight though you've to tag along huge crowds to get to see it. In my opinion, it's still worth the hassle. Afterall, it's the largest stone Buddha in the world carved over a period of 90 years (731-803AD).
Total Height = 71 m.
Head = 14.7 m.
Shoulder = 28 m.

As a birthday gift for my little son, we traveled to china this May. Our children felt excited at the sight of the giant pandas in the Wolong Panda Reserve. They were so cute and lovely that we were unwilling to leave when it was the time to close the Reserve. We enjoyed the tour very much except that the road from Chengdu to Wolong was very bump and we had to stay overnight at a very poor-conditioned hotel in Wolong for one day was not enough for us to get back to Chengdu. It was really a disappointment for us.

I am always longing for have a chance to watch the Fokuang (Light of Buddha) at Mt. Emeishan Golden Submit. However, I was told by the travel agency that this was a rare natural phenomenon that could hardly seen. I checked some useful information as following and would like to share with any one who interested:
When people stand at the Sheshen Cliff in a nice day at around 2-3pm,look down the cliff, sometimes they will find their shadow in the middle of floating clouds and multicolored halo. No matter how many people stand side-by-side, they will only see their own shadow in the middle. The past, no one can explain the phenomenon. In fact, it is a phenomenon of refraction the sunlight, the clouds and the human stands at the 45 degrees diagonal the light is slashed.

2 Entrances for the Big Buddha...
OK. July 2005. I took a bus from Chengdu to Leshan and when it pulled into the Leshan bus station there was a bus already waiting. 1RMB which everyone (including me) took to go to the Big Buddha (Da Fu).
When the bus got there, it passed what I spotted as the 'main' entrance and carried on. It dropped us off next to a second entrance maybe 10 minutes further on.
At this entrance you must pay 105RMB to see Buddha (including various other attractions). Yet, on the price board there is clearly an option just to see Buddha and nothing else for 70RMB. Enquiring, I was told I could only buy the 105RMB ticket here. The 70RMB ticket is only available from the 'main' entrance.
I caught a 10RMB rickshaw back to the main entrance and got my 70RMB ticket from there. This gave entrance to the grounds and Buddha.
Well worth it, he's amazing!!
An annoying little scam though. Don't know how you can avoid it though unless you book a tour as the Leshan bus station are obviously 'in' on it.
