Usually, a beacon tower is laid at some advantageous strategic fort so that the military information could arrive at its nearby towers promptly. And, these beacon towers should stand at closer intervals, about 2.5 kilometers to 5 kilometers between each other. Later, these towers also supplied protection and accommodation for envoys.
Ming Tomb - During the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the emperor's funeral is arranged by following steps: First, the Board of Rites together with the cabinet or Hanlin Academy hold a discussion and draw a draft for the funeral arrangements according to the passed-away emperor's edict. Then, the draft is submitted to the new emperor for approval. Approved by the emperor, the funeral is conducted according to the rites. As for the empress' funeral, the Board of Rites makes a draft for the funeral arrangements first and then submits it directly to the emperor. After being approved, the funeral is held.

Is the Chengde mountain resort very high up?? Is this a suitable tour for persons over 80?
Sep. 8,2009 19:25
Ms.Emily replied:
The Chengde Mountain Resort covers an area of 564 sq meters (218 sq miles), but there must be tourist electric car in the area. You can take it if you do not want to have too much walking. Persons over 80 can also visit it but need to choose an easy way.

Can you provide me with costs for a private boat in the Summer Palace and also for a shared boat?
Jul. 29,2009 19:57
Ms.Ruby replied:
There are 5 kinds of the boat on Kunming Lake in the Summer Palace. The cost is quite different. If you share the large with others, it is CNY10.00 net per person. For the pedalo, rowing boat and the electrical boat, you need to rent on your own and the charge varies from ¥20 to ¥80 per hour. You should ask on the spot for the detials. Furthermore, you need to pay the deposit.

Can you explain me a little what is the difference between the Mutianyu great wall and the Badaling Great Wall? is it better or worst?
Jul. 26,2009 19:43
Ms.Flora C replied:
Actually both the Badaling Great Wall and Mutianyu Great Wall are attractive and worth visiting. Mutianyu part is not that steep as Badaling and is much easier to hike. Badaling part is more vigorous. However, if you want to avoid crowds during public holidays, I suggest you visit the Mutianyu Great Wall.

I have one free day in Beijing and plan to visit Simatai Great Wall. Well, a minor problem here. I need catch my flight to back to my country in the late afternoon the same day. Is it OK?
Jul. 15,2009 21:31
Ms.Linda replied:
As Simatai Great Wall is very far from urban area and will take a whole day to visit, maybe you can not catch your flight in time after visiting it. And I have been there once, it is very dangerous to climb due to the seriously weathering. You may want to consider other parts, like Mutianyu or Badaling.

I was wondering how many door fees you''ll have to pay for all the touring sites? Are all the entrance fees included? Some places require additional fees after you go to inside the park. For instance, there is another fee inside of the Temple of Heaven and the Summer Palace, would those fees also included in the quote?
May. 8,2009 23:55
Tina replied:
The quotations on the webpage only include the first door entrance fee for each site. For the other fees for inside smaller sites, you can pay on the spot by yourself if you want to take visits . Thank you.

We''re planning our first trip to Beijing in Oct. Will that be a good time of the year, climate-wise? What''s the minimum number of days we should plan to stay to get to see the highlights of Beijing?
Apr. 30,2009 09:34
Kina replied:
October is a very pleasant month to travel around in China. But you'd better take the tour after Oct 07 since the first week of the month is the National Holiday. It will be a little bit crowded in some sightseeing spots. You many check the following page for the climate of Beijing. http://www.travelchinaguide.com/climate/beijing.htm
Generally speaking, 3 or 4 days are enough to visit the highlights in Beijing. If you have ample time, you may plan one or two extra free days to explore or discover the city on your own.

I like the Silk Market in Beijing. It is fun and a great place to bargain for a great deal! When you get tired of shopping, you can go down to the basement and get food from one of the many stalls. After that, you can go back upstairs and do more shopping! I remember its pinyin characters should be "Xiu Shui Shi Chang". It enjoys a high favor among foreigners.

The place you're going to at the Great Wall (BADALING)is just a reconstruction of the wall and has been compared to Disney World. It's got amusement rides and is just a purpose built wall in a small loop so was never even part of the original wall. We've spoken to two people who went to this bit of the wall and both were very disappointed. I think as the major tourist site you should go to another spot on the wall. The place we went to was called Mutanyu (about 90 mins from central Beijing) and it was absolutely fantastic. There's a 3km stretch of original wall (yes, renovated slightly) that you can walk along.

I recommend that the visit to the Great wall be very early in the morning, maybe there is a little less people, and it is not so hot.
