Descriptions:
Shanghai Museum - The construction of the current Shanghai Museum took three years, from August 1993 and to October 1996. On October 12th, it was opened to the visitors. Designed by Xing Tonghe, a famous modern architect in China, Shanghai Museum looks like a Ding, a tripod ancient bronze vessel. The building has a round top and a square base, reflecting the old Chinese philosophy “the sky is round and the earth is square”. At present, it welcomes all tourists all over the world with a grand-new appearance.

Yuyuan Garden. - Also called “Eastern Garden”, the Inner Garden of Yuyuan was originally built in 1709 during Emperor Kangxi's reign of the Qing Dynasty. Qingxue Hall is the main building in Inner Garden. To the east of the hall, there is a crystal creek. The finely structured hall, the winding cloisters, the decorated walls and the crystal creek together form a small but delicate courtyard. Outside the gate of the courtyard, there are the Mid-Lake Pavilion, Nine Zigzag Bridge and Lotus Pond.

Huangpu River cruise tour - Cruising along the Huangpu River is an excellent experience for visitors who want to explore the city's history, culture and the charming scenery. On the banks of the Huangpu River scattered almost all the major tourist attractions of Shanghai, which symbolize the past, present and future of the city. The two suspension bridges, Yangpu Bridge and Nanpu Bridge, are like two dragons crouching across the river, with the Oriental Pearl TV Tower encompassed under arches, constitute a painting of 'Two dragons playing with a ball'.

We are coming from Manila, which airport we are going to arrive? thank you

Nov. 18,2009 03:43
Mr.Royan replied:

You should arrive at Pudong airport. Most international flights land and depart from Pudong airport. It is much more far from the city center than Hongqiao airport.

We will be staying at the Oriental Riverside Hotel. Regarding our flight from Beijing to Shanghai. Which Shanghai airport would be best?

Oct. 12,2009 04:31
Mr.Matthew SD replied:

There are two airports in Shanghai. Pudong airport is far from the city and Hongqiao airport is nearer. You can book a flight depart from Hongqiao airport. It takes only 25 minutes drive to that Airport by taxi from your hotel.

Please advise me of the Shanghai airport. Which one to take the international flight?

Jul. 10,2009 03:18
Ms.Maggie replied:

There are two airports in Shanghai and generally speaking, the Pudong Airport is for the international flights while the Hongqiao Airport is for the domestic flights. Thus, your international flight will depart from Pudong Airport. But you need to check with your air company for sure.

The transportation in Shanghai is very convenient. You can take the taxi as most of the drivers can speak simple English; or you can take the airport shuttle bus, the metro or the public bus.

I am in Shanghai now and plan to travel in the next days. I prefer to take all the flights with Shanghai Airlines. How about it?

Jun. 19,2009 03:40
Mr.Robert Wurts(USA) replied:

Not all cities have flights with Shanghai Airlines. Why not consider the China Airline, China Eastern Airline or China Southern Airline etc. They are all safe and large reputed airline companies.

I''m sorry to say and it was big surprise for me that local guides had to take you to some pearl etc. shops. It''s not they fault (as it is decided by tourism authorities) and I just wandered there and left quite soon.

I bought a memory card for good price in Old Town Shanghai and tested it on the spot inmy camera. All seemed fine but realised later it was not a 512mb as it said on sticker but a 256mb. I know this cos I have a 256 and it gives same amount of pics. I guess the only safe/ reliable place to buy electronic stuff in China is the state owned shops... A fall into a pit, a gain in your wit.

In my opinion, Shanghai is a large modern metropolis with no difference from other big cities like NY or London. I don''t think there are many things to see in the downtown, apart from the Yuyuan Garden and Shanghai Museum. In the contrast, I am fond of the water towns nearby more deeply, such as the Qibao Old Town, the No. 1 water town Zhouzhuang, as well as Tongli etc. Taking a little boat paddled by the local people, walking around the old street in the tranquil and peaceful morning, finding some souvenirs from the local people''s handicrafts, is more relaxing and enjoyable. If you have enough time, you can also take a train to Suzhou to visit the Garden art or Hangzhou to appreciate West Lake scenery. I think they are all more of China characteristic.
