Xiakou Ancient Town Photos

The well-preserved west gate built by bricks, stones and earth.

Located about 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) southeast of Shandan County, Xiakou Ancient Town was an important passage to the western regions. Since the Han Dynasty, it had become a strategic military base with garrisons as a subsidiary building to the Great Wall. It also functioned to pass message and furnish provisions. Now more than 10 beacon towers, some barracks and training grounds are still in existence.

The Great Wall was built from the Warring States Period to Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) to defend the attack from the northern nomadic tribes. It took 2,000 years to finish this huge project. See more in this page: https://www.travelchinaguide.com/china_great_wall/facts/

The Great Wall of China was built in many dynasties, from 685BC in Warring States to 1644 in Ming Dynasty, so now you know how many years it took to be completed?
