Well, about the transport from Puxi to Pudong, you can experience the Bund Shanghai Sightseeing Tunnel. It links Puxi and Pudong areas directly. Hope you like. Or you can also join in a cruise on Huangpu River. :)

If you plan to rent a house, it will cost tens of thousands of RMB per month. I advise you rent an single-room aparment if you will go to living in Shanhai on your own, that would just cost around CNY2000 per month even if near the downtown area. To save more, you can rent one far from the downtown but with convenient transportation, that may cost around CNY1000 per month.
For transportation, subway is considered the most convenient and economic ways. Normally, CNY300-400 is enough for you to take subway per month there if you will just move between your home and your company.
For dinning, if you eat outside, it will cost at least CNY50 per day, so it will be around 2,000 per month if you won't eat big meals.
In addition to the cost of electricity, water and telephone about CNY1000 per month, you have to spend at least CNY4000 to live an rather ordinary life in that city.
