Went to the port where there were loads of agency offices to go in and talk to (they didnt speak english mostly but could call someone on their mobile who would speak to us). also lots of people on the streets trying to get us on the ships and into their offices so all very easy in the end. we spent a while comparing prices and going to the next office trying to get them to beat the last quote and in the end got to 980y for the chinese boat without the trips included, or 1250 y to include the 3 lesser gorges trip (v good), the ghost city (not so good) and the dam trip at the end. we were quite happy, didnt include food but we took some and there was food to buy everywhere the boat stopped, snack food and those little stalls which cook up ingredients to order etc, plus the restaurant on the boat wasnt bad so we didnt need to take anything at all...
we got 1st class room, and got upgraded to excellent double room at front of top deck when we got on for 400y (poss a bit steep but was worth it for a treat!)
We were lucky also and the guide for our group (I think this is just someone tagged to the tour agency or a couple of them maybe) spoke some English, a lot of the others seemed to also.
Overall a lovely trip, views poor due to fog and rain but v nice if you like to relax for a few days.. There were some westerners but predominately Chinese so you can integrate or not depending on what you want.
