Being one of the main tributaries in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, Gan River is the largest river in Jiangxi Province. The headwaters begin from Tao River and converge at Panyang Lake in Nanchang. Its drainage area is about 83,500 kilometers occupying 51 percent of Jiangxi Province, thus it deserves the largest river in Jiangxi Province.

Take the bus from Nanchang to Ganzhou at Nanchang Coach Station on the first day morning. You can call the numbers 0791-6226000 and 0791-6243217 to consult more information about the bus schedule. It is about 5 hours' driving from Nanchang to Ganzhou. You can also choose to take the fast train N523 from Nanchang to Ganzhou. It departs at 08: 11 and arrives at 12: 35. The soft seat train ticket is CNY97.00 and the hard seat train ticket is CNY63.00. Bajingtai refers to 8 pavilions in Ganzhou Old Town, of which only 2 are preserved in good states, Yugu Pavilion and Baijing Pavilion. After having the lunch at the local restaurant, you will set off for Yugu Pavilion - the landmark symbolizing the long history and brilliant culture of Ganzhou Old City. It is located on the summit of Helan Hill in north of Ganzhou city. The nice scenery and Ganzhou panorama can be seen when you are there. You can reach Yugu Pavilion by walking towards north along Xijiao Road. It is 17 meters high with 3 storeys. Some achieved literators left their inscriptions and classic works there. You can have the appreciation and learn from their sharpened wits. Then continue to Bajing Pavilion. Standing on Bajing Pavilion, you will see Gan River, converged by Zhang River and Gong River. The surging Gan River extends at infinity from here. There includes Ganzhou Museum in Bajing Pavilion. The cultural relics are richly displayed. You will feel freshened after having a promenade in Bajing Park, because it is lush in greenery and fresh in air. You can take bus No. 7 and get off at Bajing Road. The bus is in operation from 06: 30 to 21: 30 every day. The attractions are comparatively centralized in the old city, so you can finish visiting in a short time. Go to the City Wall of Song Dynasty next, it is located along the bank of Zhang River and Gong River in Ganzhou Old Town with the length of 3,664 meters. It is particularly precious that the bricks are inscribed with hundreds of thousands of characters. Different contents in different dynasties are kept in record here. Have a visit at Jiang Jingguo Old Residence located at No. 1 Garden Pool. It was designed in the style of Western Architecture. Experience walking on the float bridge interlinking 100 wooden boats with iron chain. Tonight, you should have a good rest in the clean hotel in Ganzhou.

On the second morning, take the bus to Shicheng County to explore one of the cradles of Chinese Hakka Culture. There are about 220 kilometers between Ganzhou and Shicheng. Taking the drift in Gan River Natural Reserve should come top on your agenda when you arrive in Shicheng County. It is claimed to be the most exciting drift in Asia. Mountains and greenery dominate here. You will get close to nature and taste the enthusiasm brought by the stimulation. The drifting line is totally 5 kilometers with more than 80 bays, 56 dangerous shoals and 22 swags. You will marvel at the beauty during its passage. Afterwards, go to the first village - Qiling Village in the headwaters of Gan River. Though there are currently 24 families here, the profound cultural foundation has been laid for long. It is also an ideal resort in summer, because there is not even a mosquito here. Stay at a local hotel for the overnight.

On the third day morning, go for the next stop - Tongtianzhai located about 6 kilometers southeast of Shicheng County. It is renowned for queer stone, serene cave, fragrant tea etc. It is featured by Danxia landform. There are about 42 attractions in this area, some are natural, and the others are human landscape. It takes some time for you to explore here. Finally, you should return to Nanchang and put an end to your self-guided discovery.
