Yueyang is an important stop for those in the shipping business who travel along the Yangtze River. Chenglingji Port, the biggest port in the Hunan province, is located in northern Yueyang City. Cruise ships offer tours upstream from Chenglingji Port to Chongqing, and downstream to Shanghai. Today, transportation to and from Yueyang is convenient, from all directions, via waterway, railway or highway, as the city is only 130 kilometers from Hunan's provincial capital.

While in Yueyang, make sure that you visit the symbol of the city - Yueyang Lou Tower. From the railway station, turn right and go down the street until it dead ends, then turn left and walk for about 100 meters until you reach the pedestrian strip, where you may find many shops and small restaurants that provide a taste of the local life and cuisine. Continue walking for about 1,000 meters, until you reach the west end of the strip - from here you will see the Yueyang Lou Tower. Taxis are also available throughout the city. Yueyang Lou Tower is one of Southern China's three most famous towers and pavilions. It has been featured in the literary works of many famous authors and poets. The tower is more than 1,700 years old, and it is said that this it was used to review troops in Three Kingdom Period. It gradually became more of a scenic spot in the Tang Dynasty, as part of a larger area that includes Yueyang Lou Tower, Yueyang Lou Gate, tomb of Xiaoqiao, Xianmei Pavilion, etc. The admission is CNY48.00 per person.

After visiting Yueyang Lou Tour, we recommend taking bus No. 15 from the Yueyang railway station to Mt. Junshan. A one-way ticket will cost CNY5.00 per person. Between June and September (when water levels are at their highest) ferries to Mt. Junshan are also available at the Yueyang Lou Tower port. A round-trip ferry ticket CNY60.00 per person. Mt. Junshan is a 0.96 square kilometer island on Dongting Lake, which holds 72 mountain peaks. Taoists believe it to be the 11th paradise in the world. Today it is also the state-level key scenic area and a national AAAA level tourist area. While visiting the Mt. Junshan area, you will not only appreciate the beauty of Dongting Lake, but also be able to visit many areas which hold diverse and engaging legends, including Dongting Temple, Liuyi Well and Tomb of Two Imperial Concubines. Lodging is not available on the mountain. If you would like to further explore the area, we recommend travelling back to Yueyang City for the evening and returning to continue your exploration the following day.
