Badaling Great Wall Night Tour (May to October)

At around 15:30, your private guide and driver will pick you up from your self-booked hotel in downtown Beijing and accompany you on a comfortable 1.5-hour private car ride to Badaling Great Wall, the best-known classic stretch of the Great Wall in Beijing and even in China. Along the way, your guide will introduce you to some historical background of the Great Wall.

► The Great Wall of China Trivia
There was a claim that the Great Wall of China is the only structure visible from space. Although it’s a debunked exaggeration, it well implies the grandiosity of the man-made miracle. Built over 2,000 years to block northern nomadic invasions, it stretches across as much as half of China, spanning mountain regions, plains, the loess plateau, and deserts. The portions constructed from the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644) are the crowning glories - tougher, more wisely laid out, and the grandest. The Badaling piece we’re going to visit today is exactly one of those. It was right here that Li Zicheng (1606 - 1645), a famous Chinese general, led a peasant uprising, successfully captured Beijing, and overthrew the Ming Dynasty.

Upon arrival, enjoy a cable car ride we’ve included for you up to the South 4th Watchtower, and if weather permits, catch a fabulous sunset. Watch the sun ignite a symphony of reds and oranges on the majestic Great Wall, and let your guide’s immersive stories and the interplay of light and shadow transport you to the remote past. Imagine how the same sun had witnessed the wars and conflicts once staged here and how it is relieved now.As it gets dark, embark on a night walking tour on the Great Wall’s open stretch from South 4th Watchtower to North 4th Watchtower with your guide. From now until 22:00, it will be strung with ribbons of light, making it look like a giant dragon studded with jewels, winding and leaping across the mountain ridges. Meanwhile, traditional cultural performances combining classical dance, folk music, and Peking Opera can be encountered occasionally, offering a spectacular visual feast. Along the way, you can also interact with NPC actors dressed as defending soldiers and diplomatic envoys, allowing you an immersive cultural experience. Moreover, your experienced guide will give you advice on where to capture great photos.
