Central Business AreaThe below one day bicycle tour mainly covers the east and north part of Beijing Central Business District. By taking this route, you will have the chance to feel the real modern Beijing and its rapid development on the scene. You can also take a visit to the Village at Sanlitun or the Chaoyang Park which are surrounded the Beijing CBD and are both popular destinations for relaxing and entertaining.
You will start the trip from Beijing Shin Kong Place (Xin Guang Tian Di Shopping Mall) in the bustling Business Center, ride towards west along the Jianguo Road until the International Trade Building flyover (Guomao Lijiaoqiao). En route, a great many soaring skyscrapers will come into your eyes.
The landmark buildings in the CBD are the Jianwai SOHO, the International Trade Building and the Fortune Plaza. Reputed as the "most fashionable showcase of life" by the media, the Jianwai SOHO is composed of 18 high buildings, 16 streets and about 300 stores with no bounding walls. The 16 streets shuttle on the 17 hectare architectural complex, creating the street culture full of human kindness. About 50 thousand persons will live, work, play or linger on in this area every day.
CCTV TowerAt the intersection of the International Trade Building flyover, turn right towards north to ride along the East Third Ring Road. You will go through the Chaoyangmenwai Street, to the southeast of which is the new site of CCTV headquarters. Continue cycling along the East Third Ring Road, you will see the Tuanjie Lake Park (Tuanjiehu Park). It is a city park with unique features of the classic gardens in the south of China. You may stop to stroll around the park and to feel the fresh air, the green plants and the peaceful lake. There is no admission fee for entering the park.
Go ahead cycling on the East Third Ring Road for about 1 kilometer, you will reach the Tuanjiehu subway station. Then turn left, you will find that the Village at Sanlitun is just located in this area. The Village is a business district for the soul of culture and arts and it is well-known almost for all the visitors in Beijing for its bar streets. It may be very quiet during day time on the streets but it will be a completely different world at night. The nightlife in the Village is extremely lively and rich.
If you turn right when you reach the Tuanjiehu subway station, you may pay a visit to the Chaoyang Park. It is the largest city park within the area of the Fourth Ring Road in Beijing. There are around 20 scenic areas in the park and the green area come up to 2500 acres which plays an important role in improving the environment. The beach volleyball matches at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games were just held in this Park. The admission fee is CNY5.00 but it will be invalid if there is large activity held in the Park.
