To the south, it is the Mao Zedong Memorial Hall which is a must for all of the Chinese. On the east side, the National Museum is displaying the long history of China.

Forbidden City - The Forbidden City is an imperial palace complex of the Ming and the Qing dynasties and also a big museum. It tells people about the change of the royal court for about 600 years and the several thousand years' history of Chinese civilization. It's the largest ancient palace complex in the world and also the place that 24 emperors of Ming and Qing dynasties lived in. It is a great heritage for all humans. Temple of Heaven - The Temple of Heaven was originally constructed to the southeast of the Forbidden City in 1402 of the early Ming Dynasty and has been utilized in the following 490 years. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was the solemn altar for emperors worshiping heaven and praying for good harvest. Badaling Great Wall, Beijing

Day 03Beijing

Descriptions:
Badaling Great Wall - A Chinese proverb says that a man who hasn't been to the Great Wall is not a real man. Until now, the Badaling Great Wall has welcomed and impressed more than 13 millions visitors, including the former US presidents Nixon and Reagan, the first woman Prime Minister of Great Britain Mrs Thatcher and other more than 400 heads of foreign governments and men of the time, which is rare among all the tourist sites in the world. So during your visit in Beijing, Badaling should absolutely not be missed!

Sacred Way - Stretching seven kilometers from the south to the north, the Sacred Way is the main passage to the Ming Tombs. The main attractions along the road are the Stone Archway, the Red Palace Gate, the Stone Tablet Pavilion, the Stone Animals and Human Figures, and the Ling Xing Gate. After passing through the Stone Archway, you will see two Hills on two sides of the road which resemble a dragon and a tiger guarding the Ming Tombs. In Taoism, it is a very auspicious sign.

Ming Tomb - The Ming tomb complex consists of thirteen tombs in different sizes. Each tomb leans against a mountain. Except Siling which lies in the southwest of Changling, the other twelve tombs assume a fan shape around Changling. Following the principle of Feng Shui, the thirteen tombs are in harmony with the mountains, rivers and vegetation around them. The philosophy of 'Harmony between Man and Nature' and the wisdom of the architects and the workers are exemplified very well by the Ming Tombs.

what about the duck dinner at Bianyi Fang or Quanjude for Duck?

Nov. 2,2009 01:51
Mr.joey replied:

Quanjude is the most famous place for duck dinner, while Bianyi Fang is very popular with local people. Both places are ok.

Nov. 2,2009 19:10
Ms.Maggie replied:

As the Quanjude restaurant is always full of tourists, the service there can't be very satisfying and the price is pretty high. As far as I know, it is CNY300.00 per person. As for the Bianyi Fang, it is about CNY150.00 per person.

The Crowne Plaza Hotel is located on Wangfujing Avenue. It only have 0.5km to the Wangfujing Shopping area. The summer hours for most Beijing shopping malls are 08:30 - 21:30; in winter they are closed either a half or one hour earlier than in summer.

As per the schedule, flight reaches by 2.50 pm in the afternoon, is it possible to reach Summer Palace by 4 pm in the evening. Please let me know your idea.

Sep. 9,2009 22:01
Mr.Doyle replied:

It takes about 1-1.5 hours to handle the check-out procedure, and then another 50 minutes' drive is needed for the transfer from the airport to the Summer Palace. In case there is the traffic jam, more time will be spent. The Summer Palace is closed at 18: 00. It seems that you can not reach Summer Palace on the day.

Have an idea to visit Great Wall (Simatai section). Is it safe and how much time it usually takes?

Jul. 10,2009 02:59
Mr.Boey replied:

As Simatai Great Wall is very far from the city, it needs a whole day to visit. This part of Great Wall is ruined and weathered seriously, considering your safety, you'd better walk around in the better-preserved places and no hiking or trekking on it. Also, no good restaurants can be founded nearby and you need to bring your own lunch box instead. Why not visit the Mutianyu Great Wall? Less crowded section than Badaling, but well preserved and good facility equipped.
