Potala Palace Pictures

Potala Palace was first built in 637 by the King Songtsen Gampo as a meditation resort. After half a century's expansion, it was constructed to be a grand building complex on the mountain slope, becoming the chief residence of Dalai Lama. where is potala palace and can i see great wall in shanghai or nanjing

1. It is in Lhasa.

2. As for Great Wall visit, I'm afraid there is no section at Shanghai and Nanjing. You can go from either of the cities to Beijing to have a visit. Badaling or Mutianyu Section is suggested.

How far is it from the Potala palace to the Balkhor Street? Is it in walking distance?

Yes, they are very near to each other. It only takes 10-20 minutes to walk to Barkhor street.

Where is Lhasa railway station? Is it in the city proper just like other railway stations in China? I cannot find it on the Lhasa Map.

The Lhasa Railway Station is not located at the city area. It is set in the Doilungdeqen County which is about 20 kilometers to the southwest of Lhasa City.
