Owing to its particular location on the coast of the East Sea and to the south of the Yangtze Delta, Ningbo has been an important Chinese trading port ever since the Tang (618-907) and Song (960-1279) dynasties. It is also the communication hub of Eastern Zhejiang Province. This area has developed quickly these last few years and transportation in Ningbo has become quite convenient.

Hang-Yong Expressway and No.329 National Highway endow Ningbo with a very convenient location with close proximity to other cities in Zhejiang Province. In Ningbo City, the Huancheng Road encircles the city allowing for easy access to many places. Four long-distance bus stations serve buses from cities in and around Zhejiang Province. Over 200 bus lines operate within the city linking together all parts of the city.

Ningbo has its own airport, the Lishe International Airport. It plays an important role in the transportation sector of Ningbo. Nowadays, the airport has opened up to most of the Chinese cities like Shanghai, Beijing and Xian. Also, airlines to Hong Kong and Seoul are on service. On the other hand, the convenient bus lines and expressways provide much facility for you to get to the airport.

With the close proximity of the Hang-Yong Railway, Ningbo has become a much more open city in China. Trains heading for many other cities like Shanghai and Guangzhou form a large transportation network and making traveling much easier.
