To travel to Dunhuang, you can fly from Beijing, Lanzhou, and Urumqi, or you can take a train from Urumqi or Lanzhou to Liuyuan and then take a bus to Dunhuang. Liuyuan is 130km from Dunhuang.

By plane:
Dunhuang Airport is 13km east of the city. It has direct flights from Lanzhou, Xi'an, Beijing, Urumqi and other cities, although there are not many flights each week. Buses from the CAAC offices (09473-22389) on Dong Dajie near the Dunhuang Hotel.

By train:
Dunhuang City does not have a railway station. It relies on the Liuyuan Train Station 130km to the north for its rail traffic, all that is required is catching a bus from Liuyuan to Dunhuang. Daily, 16 trains stop at the Liuyuan Station and connect Liuyuan (and Dunhuang) with Shanghai,Beijing West Station, Xi'an, Chengdu, Lanzhou, Urumqi and many other destinations can be reached from Liuyuan.

By road:
Buses to and from Lanzhou, Xi'an, Hami, Turpan, Urumqi and other cities can be taken in Dunhuang. The bus station is on Dingzi Lu in central south Dunhuang.

Here are some tips for your stay in Lanzhou:

1. Meals
There are a lot of Muslim Restaurants selling famous Lanzhou noodles (tiny doughy noodles in a spicy sauce with meat; one of my favorite dishes in China; in chinese it is called "lamian"). The noodle cost only 5rmb. The best eating in Lanzhou is at the night markets - there are street vendors selling all kinds of local delicacies, including pig snouts and tails but also spicy potato slices on skewers and meat kebabs that are fantastic. Having your dinner at a roadside stall was really something excellent. This kind of stall can be seen everywhere. The ones nearby the Railway station is extremely crowded at night.

2. Shopping
Women all like shopping no matter where they are. If you are looking for big modern shopping malls in Lanzhou, take No.38 bus to Nanguan junction.

3. Equippment
Air pollution level is high in Lanzhou, if you are suffering from breathing trouble, take utmost care. Though the city is like any other big city, beautiful, good transportation, supermarkets and of course road side noodles, it is really a big problem here.

4. Sightseeing
FriendWu-Chuan-Shan (Five Spring Park) is definately a place to worth going during your leisure time. Entrance fee is only 6rmb. How we get there? Take No.15 bus cost only 1.5rmb. The Five Spring Park is a big hilly park with mountainous landscaping of Lanzhou, we follow the steps up to the top looking at Lanzhou city but was badly polluted. Try to forget about the pollution, concentrate on this park, a very tranquil place to relax yourself when you are in Lanzhou.
