11 Days of Kunming - Dali - Lijiang - Naxi Village - Lashi Lake - Baishuitai - Zhongdian - Tiger Leaping Gorge - Walnut Grove - Jingsha River -Daju - Lijiang

Day 01: Arrival in Kunming
Arrive in Kunming and get prepared. Stay overnight at a local hotel.


Day 02: Kunming - Dali
Visit Stone Forest and Bird and Flower Market, time permitting. Take a flight to Dali.


Day 03: Dali - Lijiang
Visit the Erhai Lake Park, the Three Pagoda Temple and the Dali Old Town. Drive to Lijiang and it will take three hours. On the way to Lijiang, visit the Bai Traditional House in Xizhou and Zhoucheng, famous for tie dyeing.


Day 04: Lijiang - Naxi Village
Visit the Square Street and Mu Prince Mansion of the Lijiang Old Town in the morning. Drive to Lashi Lake to visit Naxi Village in the afternoon, take a canoe ride on the lake.


Day 05: Naxi Village - Lashi Lake - Baishuitai
Visit the Lashi Lake, a provincial nature reserve, known especially for bird watching. Pass the “First Bend of Yangtze River” en route to Baishuitai, a series of spectacular terraced pools formed from minerals deposited by spring water.


Day 06: Baishuitai - Zhongdian
Drive to Zhongdian, a Tibetan town recently renamed as Shangrila. En route, stop at Bita Lake, an alpine lake at an elevation of 3560 meters. Soak away the dust at a hot spring, located on a 3200 meter high plateau. That night enjoy a Tibetan song and dance performance.


Day 07: Zhongdian - Tiger Leaping Gorge
Visit the Songzanlin Temple, the biggest Tibetan Buddhist Temple in Yunnan, the Bitahai Lake, Shudu Lake and a Tibetan family. Then go ahead to Qiaotou, the gateway to Tiger Leaping Gorge which is the deepest gorge in the world.


Day 08: Tiger Leaping Gorge
Enjoy a full day’s hike along the High Trail in Tiger Leaping Gorge, braving the 900 meters ascent through the “28 Bends” then enjoying the panorama of Yulong Snow Mountains from the summit. Hike for the next 2 hours to reach the Half-way hotel. Stay overnight there.


Day 09: Tiger Leaping Gorge - Walnut Grove - Jingsha River - Daju
Continue hiking in Tiger Leaping Gorge passing some beautiful cascade en route to Walnut Grove. Then take a van & donkey & ferry combination to arrive at the other side of the Jingsha River. Hike for further hour and a half across plateau surrounded by snow-covered mountains to Daju. Stay overnight at a local hotel.


Day 10: Daju - Lijiang
Visit the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (5996m) area. Take a cable car up to Maoniuping (Yak Meadow). Hike at the top to take in the spectacular views of the Snow Mountains with the grassland in the foreground. Drive back to Lijiang. En route, stop at Baishuihe (White Water River) and Gan Hezi (Dry Sea) for scenic views.


Day 11: Departure from Lijiang
Leave Lijiang according to your own schedule.

The best time to visit the Tiger Leaping Gorge is, definitely, rainy season, the local said so. I was there, unfortunately at dry season, it was beautiful indeed, but i could imagine how great it would be during rainy season.
