Aswan to Luxor Road Trip with Visits to Three Temples

Tour Code: TEG208
From Aswan to Luxor, there are usually three ways for you to choose from. The most popular is to take a Nile Cruise which usually covers 4 days and 3 nights. The whole itinerary is idyllic, comfortable and tranquil, but it costs more and enables you to see more. The second way is the 3-hour first class train, which is cheaper and faster. The trains operate almost every two hours daily, but you will miss the three important shrines between Aswan and Luxor. The third way, also our recommendation in this itinerary, is to hire a car with an English-speaking driver so that you can visit the Kom Ombo Temple, the Edfu Temple and the Temple of Khnum midway. The whole day trip will take about 8 to 9 hours which is fulfilling and cost-effective.

Today your first stop is the Kom Ombo Temple which is 47 kilometers north of Aswan. Leaving from Aswan, you will arrive at the Kom Ombo Temple in one hour where enshrines both Sobek, the crocodile god, and Horus, the falcon-headed god. The ticket is 140 EGP. The Kom Ombo Temple is one of the must-see attractions of all Nile River Cruises' itinerary, so it will be very busy from 10:00 to 16:00, try to avoid this time when you plan your trip.

Warm Tip: If you happen to take this trip on Saturday, Sunday or Tuesday, you can also pay a visit to the nearby Daraw Camel Market where is 8 km south to the Kom Ombo. It will be a unique and interesting experience of your Egypt tour.

Then move forward to the Edfu Temple by 1.5 hours' drive. It is also called the Temple of Horus and regarded to be the best preserved temple of the Ancient Egyptian architecture. The entry fee is 180 EGP.

Warm Tips:
· In the visitor center of the Edfu Temple, a short film about the temple's history can be watched.
· Edfu is a small city, you can find some good local Egyptian restaurants and cafés on the main square of the old city of Edfu.

Next, continue to drive 1.5 hours to visit the Temple of Khnum in Esna, which is more popularly known as the Esna Temple. This Temple is dedicated to the God Khnum, the ram-headed god. The ticket costs 80 EGP. Unlike the other historical sites in Egypt, there is no camera ticket for this site, you can take photos with all kinds of cameras at no extra cost.

Finally, you will reach Luxor city in 1.5 hours by car from Esna.
