Qingdao Travel Guide

Qingdao Map Qingdao, a beautiful seaside city, is located in the southeast part of Shandong Province. To the east, a short distance across the Yellow Sea, lie Korea and Japan, making Qingdao an important city for international trade.

For thirty three years, up to 1949, Qingdao was a colony of Germany and Japan. Thus, Qingdao has a great deal of European architecture. This foreign architecture -a remnant of the colonial past- now beautifies this seaside city.

The red roofs, green trees, blue sea, and azure sky form a bright and colorful picture of Qingdao. The city is sometimes known as the Switzerland of the Orient.

Surrounded by the sea on three sides, Qingdao attracts many tourists with its charming seascape. Sights like the Eight Passes Villas, the Zhan Bridge, Wusi Square, Mt. Laoshan, will help you remember Qingdao. Just walking on the sand and listening to the surf breaking on the beach becomes enjoyable.

Qingdao offers food with distinctive flavors--especially seafood. So take this chance to enjoy the delicious seafood of Qingdao. Also, Qingdao is the home of the famous Qingdao (Tsingtao) Beer. Have a bottle of pure Qingdao Beer right here in Qingdao!

The Qingdao Municipal Government recognizes the importance of the tourism industry and has further plans to develop tourism in Qingdao. To enhance the tourism industry, Qingdao now sponsors the Qingdao International Beer Festival, the Qingdao International Sea Festival, Beach Culture Festival, the Sea Affection Festival, and the Summer of Qingdao Festival.

In cooperation with the Beijing Olympic Games 2008, Qingdao will hold the Sailing Competition in the Olympic Games in 2008. This great event brings a great opportunity for this charming city to build its bright future.

Qingdao and Korea

Since the first Korean companies began doing business in Qingdao in 1988, Korean people have lived here. Thousands of Korean people now live and work here, which makes Qingdao the city with the most Korea investment enterprises in China. And Qingdao also has the largest Korean population in China. With years of cultural exchange, they have established deep, close friendships and mutual trust with the native Chinese people.

I want to buy train ticket from Qingdao to Linyi for 8:36am ticket - where can I buy online, or what is the resource to buy the ticket online ?

Oct. 26,2009 21:09
Ms.HERBEAT(China) replied:

Are you in Qingdao now? Why don't you go to the station and get it? I'm not sure whether you could get the train ticket online or not... I went to the train station yesterday and there're not crowded at all...

Oct. 27,2009 02:00
Mr.Axe(India) replied:

I am in a hotel close to airport - so the station is far. My hotel got me a ticket on the train.
I am done with my business during the day time in Qingdao, and what is the best way to go around Qingdao, bus ?

Oct. 27,2009 04:39
Ms.HERBEAT(China) replied:

Emmm... There're buses from the airport to downtown and I think if you ask the hotel, they would be able to tell you. And after you arrive downtown, there are lots of sightseeings...

Oct. 29,2009 21:21
Mr.Wu(China) replied:

Hi Axe,

I think you can trust your hotel. Tell them where you gonne go and they will arrange everything. I think it's convenient and safe to order ticket in your hotel. Or you can go to railway station to buy ticket. It'll not take you much time.

Mr.Leo replied:

Please go to these beaches and the Zhan Bridge. If time available, you could do an excursion to the Mt. Laoshan. Well, the introduction of these places could be found http://www.travelchinaguide.com/attraction/shandong/qingdao/

Oct. 29,2009 21:12
Mr.Wu(China) replied:

Hi Lion,

I'm born in Qingdao city. I live in Qingdao about 27 years. There are a lot of night blub near Xianggang Zhong Road and Olmpic Sailing Center. For me I often go to Feeling Clud in Xianggang Zhong Road. It's a place for young people. The price is reasonable. I think the price is lower than any club in Shanghai. Sometimes it'll have hot performance at midnight. Hope you like my hometown.

If so, I think I can say it's near downtown, even though there are more than one factories of Beihai Shipyard. I'm in Qingdao and welcome^-^

Oct. 26,2009 21:51
Mr.Long(Qingdao) replied:

The main Beihai shipyard is in Haixiwan Huangdao (bhshipyard.com.cn/english.php). You can look for hotels in either Huangdao or old town at the southern end of shinan district.

You can also stay in the CBD and take the ferry from Yinhai Yacht Club to Huangdao.

Hi, we are coming to Shanghai for a friend's wedding and then traveling on our own to Qingdao from 10/8 to 10/12 - can anyone recommend a good restaurant for fresh seafood? My huband and I both love to cook (and try different cuisines!) and wonder if there is a traditional dish to Qingdao that we should try while we are visiting? Also recommendations for a good hotel would be most welcome.

Sep. 28,2009 23:14
Ms.HERBEAT(China) replied:

Hi, there are lots of restautants for seafood here. But some of them are cheap and some very expensive. There are different places and streets based on different prices. Given your preferance, then I can tell you where to go^-^

Sep. 28,2009 23:19
Ms.HERBEAT(China) replied:

The cooking style in QD has some characteristic with Shandong cuisine. It's a whole system. But almost all the seafood is worth to try if you like. And there's some luxury restaurant where you could get all kinds of seafood^-^

Mrs.Nicoll(USA) replied:

Thank you for the replies and suggestions - we do not want to go to a very expensive place for food but do want to make sure it is fresh! Some place in the middle between cheap and expensive would be perfect, and I will look into Shangrila Hotel too. Thank you again!

Sep. 30,2009 23:03
Ms.HERBEAT(China) replied:

Then I suggest the road called Yunxiao Road. There are lots of restaurants. I'm sure you will find something there. It's not far from Shangrila.

How are the hotel costs there?

Sep. 26,2009 21:31
Ms.HERBEAT(China) replied:

You can go to the train station and get the ticket. Just tell the workers there where you want to go and the date. Or if you cannot speak Chinese, just type it out and show to them.

Sep. 26,2009 21:33
Ms.HERBEAT(China) replied:

Don't know why but my replies keep disappearing, so devided it into two parts. Wish it won't happen any more. There're hotels from five star to normal one, what kind do you want to stay? 200RMB will be enough for a standard room per night.

Sep. 26,2009 21:38

hello, may i know how to travel yiwu city to qingdao , or any connecto of train, bus or more way, or plz suggest any good indian hotel in both of city

Sep. 6,2009 20:04
Mr.John replied:

No direct train from Yiwu to Qingdao. You should take trains to Jinan and then change another train to Qingdao. You can take K102 train from Yiwu at 18:10 to Jinan 9:14 to catch bullet train from Jinan to Qingdao, which only take over two hours.
Regarding hotels, hope this is helpful:

From shanghai, the fastest train is 420 yuan and the time is 10 hours. The normal train is about 170 yuan and the time is 18 hours around.
