Chia-ling River also called Chia-ling Jiang or Jialing Jiang, is the upstream branch of Yangtze River, the north shore branch of Yangtze River as well. It goes through the middle part of the Sichuan Basin from North to South and disembogues into Yangtze River in Chaotianmen Pier, Chongqing. With the length of 1119 kilometers, its drainage area is near 160,000 square kilometers, whose current capacity is only inferior to Mingjiang River among Yangtze River branches. The valley intersected deeply, thus the canyon formed and the current is very rapid. Nearby Chaotian Town, Guangyuan, the main branch crosscut Jianmen Mountain with the altitude of 900-1100 meters, formed the Qingfeng Gorge and Mingyue Gorge, which get the reputation of the "The Little Qutang Gorge in Chia-ling River" reaches.

The Mingyue Gorge, also called Chaotian Gorge, is located in Chia-ling River, 30 kilometers away from Guangyuan City. With the grotesque and steepy cliff, the gorge is famous for its plank road built along a cliff in the Pre-qin Dynasty with the melting-pot culture. Concerning the names of the Gorges, there are two legends. The first one was that there was a huge and bright stone in the river and it kindled during night, and the whole gorge seemed like under the shine of the clear moon. Since the stone was named Mingyue Stone, the gorge gets the name "Mingyue Gorge" duly. Another one was that, Zhu Geliang had two cute and clever attendants in Three Kingdom Period, the Shutong(in Chinese) named Mingyue, and the Qintong named Qingfeng, Zhu Geliang loved them very much and treated them as his biological son. When the northern   expedition failed, these two attendants suicided into the river to show their loyalty to their county and their host. After that, people gave the names "Qingfeng Gorge" and "Mingyue Gorge" respectively to the nearby gorges to commemorate them.

Take bus to Chaotian Town in Guangyuan Beimen Bus Station, and then change to take a taxi or motorcycle to Mingyue Gorge. The admission fee there is RMB15.00 net. Spend your time leisurely around and take the advantage to walk along the plank road. After the sightseeing there, have your lunch and walk northward for 4 kilometers or so, you will arrive at the famous Xuexi Cave, which is very near to Mingyue Gorge and it is located 4 kilometers north of the Chaotian Town, Guangyuan. Xuexi Cave gets its name just because the snow-white scenery design like the jade formed by the stalactite in the cave and it is famous for the underground stalagmite, stelae, etc. The mystery of the cave is that there is cave in the cave, that is to say, there is small cave inside the big cave. The limpid brook flows in the cave and formed a fair-sounding and melodious music, which increases its charm and attracts numerous visitors. The admission fee of the Cave is RMB20.00 net. Recently, the roads leading to Xuexi Cave is under construction. With the illuminating of the light, this underground palace is surely a wonderful place to explore mystery.

Transfer back to Guangyuan Beimen Bus Station and take a minibus to Choubi County to visit the Shenbi Yuan, a kind of memorial place for heroes in Three Kingdoms, such as the mud statue of the famous strategist Zhu Geliang with the posture to write a book raptly, the statue of the General Zhao Yun and some other generals, about 20 in total or so in the Jixian Hall. Exactly speaking, there are nearly 70 houses with tile roof, among them Jixian Hall, Zhongjun Hall and Tiangong Hall are the three famous ones. Each Spring Festival, especially in August, the time when Zhu Geliang passed away, the visitors,  those who hold a memorial ceremony for the wise military counselor - Zhu Geliang are in an endless stream. Transfer back to Guangyuan City after your visit.
