The village of Yangshuo is just about two hours from Guilin. The most beautiful way to get there is the Li River Cruise which can be booked in Guilin and the boat dock is about 45 minutes from the city. After a 4 to 5 hour fantastic boat ride down through the hay stack like hills you can either stop at Crown Cave on the way or take a boat that goes directly to Yangshuo. Presidents Carter and Clinton both visited this area. This is a great area to bike ride as it is quite flat and a mountain bike rents for about $1.50 a day. You can hire local guides also to take you around if you do not want to strike out on your own. This past year they added one of hte best outdoor shows I have ever seen on the river at night. It is produced by the directer that produced "Crouching Tiger Flying Dragons" and is really fantastic. Sells out every night. One can get there by bus also from Guilin if you don't want to take the cruise.
