Map of Downtown Shigatse

Renowned for the world's highest peak Mount Qomolangma, Shigatse lies in the southwest of Tibet, on the southwestern border of China. It adjoins Nagri on the west, Nakchu on the north, and Lhasa and Shannan on the east. It borders on Nepal, Bhutan, Sikkim and other South Asian countries. Shigatse is a transportation hub of Tibet and visited by tourists very often. The downtown of Shigatse is not big. You may get around the city on foot or by pedicab.

The above Tibet Shigatse map shows the major streets and the locations of the bus station and the major shopping places, restaurants, hotels, hospitals and banks in the city proper of Shigatse. As you can see, the streets are well distributed and the sites for shopping and catering are quite concentrated, which makes Shigatse urban trip very easy. The map also clearly shows the famous tourist attractions Dzong Fortress and Tashihunpo Monastery.

Out of the city center, you can see three arrowheads. The northern one leads to Lhasa; the southern one tells you the way to Gyangtse; the western one points to Lhatse, which is a small town near the downtown Shigatse.

Ms.Yuan(China) replied:

As I mentioned, you'd better stay in Dingri, which is only 110 kilometers from Mt. Everest. However, it's said that the road is very bumpy. By bus, it would take you about 4 hours. Maybe, you cannot find very satisfactory hotels in Dingri. But compared with camping under the Mt. Everest, it's much better. In the daytime, the weather is not cold but it's very cold at night. The trip is hard but very memorable.

Ms.Yuan(CN) replied:

In Shigatse, you can take the special bus at the Mt. Everest Bus Station to go to Mt. Everest. The address of the bus station is 15 Qingdao Road, Shigatse. The buses are not available every day. You'd better go to ask the bus station in advance. If you do not want to stay in the Camp area of the Mt. Everest, you can stay in Dongri County during the way.
