Subway Line 1 (Jinjiang Park ↔ Xujiahui) has been in operation since 1993. It is the first subway line in Shanghai and enables Shanghai to succeed Beijing and Tianjin as the third city in mainland China to have subway lines.
Now Line 1 is the busiest and the most important north-south trunk line in the city's public transportation network. It links the northern Baoshan District and the southern Minhang District. With a total length of 37.88 kilometers (23.54 miles), Line 1 covers 28 stations, which are set up at many of Shanghai's famous attractions and transportation hubs, including Jinjiang Park, Shanghai South Railway Station, Shanghai Indoor Stadium, Xujiahui, People's Square, Shanghai Railway Station and Shanghai Circus World. The whole trip takes about 65 minutes.
At present, Line 1 includes four sections:
1. Line 1 Part 1: Jinjiang Park ↔ Shanghai Railway Station (Starting Time: 1995.4)
2. Line 1 South Extended Section: Jinjiang Park ↔ Xinzhuang (Starting Time: 1996.12)
3. Line 1 North Extended Section Part 1: Shanghai Railway Station ↔ Gongfu Xincun (Starting Time: 2004.12)
4. Line 1 North Extended Section Part 2: Gongfu Xincun ↔ Fujin Rd. (Starting Time: 2007.12)
Line 1 will be extended south to Jinshan District and north to Chongming Island in the future.
Transfer: Passengers of Line 1 can transfer to Line 2 and Line 8 at People's Square, to Line 3 at Shanghai South Railway Station, to Line 4 at Shanghai Indoor Stadium and to Line 5 at Xinzhuang.

We want to know how much it will cost us if we take off from Nanjing East Station?
Is it Subway Line 2 then transfer to Subway Line 1 at People's Square Station? How many minutes of walk is it from the Shanghai Circus World station to the Theater or Show itself? We would like to know also if we want to board a Jinjiang or a Dazhong Sightseeing bus the next day, where is the nearest place to board considering that our Hotel is the Nanjing Hotel which is located at 200 Shangxi South road?

Yes, you have to transfer at the People's Square. When you arrive at he Shanghai Circus World Sation, please take the Exit 3, just out of which you will find the Theater. Very quick~
To catch Jinjiang sightseeing bus: please take the subway Line 2 and then get off at the People's Square. Walk to the west of Shanghai Musuem, you will find the bus.
To catch the Dazhong bus: please transfer to Line 1 at the People's Square and then get off at Shanghai railway station where you could catch the bus. Actually, not suggested that you take the bus since there are only two or three scheduled buses everyday.

which is better to take, the Taxi or do we take the Subway? If it's the Taxi, how much is the estimated cost?
If the subway, what line number should we take and what station should we get off that is near the Yu Yuan Garden/Bazaar? If we come from the Liujiazu area and we want to go back to our hotel at 200 Shangxi Road,
is there a sightseeing tunnel that we can pass through, and where is it located? Thank You.

There is no subway could take you from the Financial Center to the Yuyuan Garden directly. So, please take a taxi. The fare is around 20RMB.
Lujiazui is just where the Financial Center is located, so you could take the subway Line 2 here and then get off at Nanjing East Road. It is just where the hotel is located. The underwater sightseeing tunnel is set here, too. At the foot of the Oriental Peal, Lujiazui, you could take the sightseeing tunnel to the other terminal set at the Nanjing East Rd.

This was helpful when we visited Shanghai. It passes most the prosperous destinations of Shanghai. Our hotel is nearby the Shanghai South Railway Station where Line 1 passes and leading us to the People's Square (just at the end of the Nanjing Road). Our train to Suzhou departed at 8:30am from the Shanghai Railway Station. So, we left from the hotel around 7:30am and cost about 30 minutes from South Station to the Raiway Station by Line 1. The fare is 4rmb per head, cheap and quick~
