Xidi Village, Huangshan

If you would like to have a stroll around the towns and villages near Huangshan city before you climb the well-known Mt Huangshan, we suggest that you head for Tunxi town. You can take a bus to Tunxi from the Huangshan Railway Station. The bus routes include No.1, 2, 6 and 12. In Tunxi, you can visit the Tunxi Old Street, Longshan Temple or join the Xin'an River Night Cruise. To ensure you have enough time to enjoy Tunxi and still be able to transfer to Yixian county, we suggest you take a morning train from Huangshan city to Tunxi.

 From Tunxi you can take the train to Yixian county. The Huangshan Railway Station (also called Tunxi Railway Station) provides the trains to Yixian. Yixian is about 40 kilometers from Tunxi and the trip takes about one hour.

You could also take a coach bus or charter a bicycle to reach Yixian County, which is just 27 kilometers away from Tunxi. Between Yixian and Tunxi (i.e. downtown Huangshan), there is a provincial highway that runs parallel to the railway. On the way, you might visit Qiyun Mountain.

Upon arrival in Yixian, there are lots of attractions well worth visiting. Among these, Xidi and Hongcun towns should not be missed. They are the typical ancient villages preserved from the Ming and Qing dynasties. When you see the buildings and the way the local people live you feel as if you have stepped back in time. The entrance charge for Huncun village is CNY 80.00. From the sky, this village's layout looks like the Chinese character “牛". Enjoy the sites, and stroll around to your heart's content. Afterwards, find the road leading to the Mt. Huangshan in Xidi or Hongcun. Both roads lead you to Tangkou Town, located at the foot of the Huangshan Mountain. If you get to Tangkou too late in the afternoon, you might want to stay in town for one night and relax. The following day, you can climb the Huangshan Mountain.

Hongcun Village, Huangshan

 After enjoying the great views from Mt. Huangshan, you can hike down to Tangkou and take a coach bus back to Huangshan City (Tunxi District) from the Huangshan Scenic Area Bus Station. Finally, find a comfortable accommodation there and stay overnight. Or, you can move on to your next destination.

Tips: 1. The Huangshan Railway Station is located on Qianyuan Road (North), Tunxi District, Huangshan City. We suggest you stock up on food and water before you board the train, since the food on the train will be a bit expensive.
2. The Huangshan Coach Bus Station is very close to the Huangshan Railway Station. The coach bus station provides buses to Mt. Huangshan about every 30 minutes.
3. The Huangshan Scenic Area Bus Station also has buses to Shanghai, Nanjing, Zhenjiang, Yangzhou, Wuxi, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Huzhou, Hefei, Huainan, Bengbu, Maanshan, Wuhu, Anqing, Jingdezhen and many other cities.
