Providing you would like to have a stroll around the nearby towns and cities in Huangshan city before you go to climb the well-known Mt Huangshan, you are kindly advised to head for Tunxi town. You can take a bus to Tunxi at Huangshan Railway Station. The bus routes include No.1, 2, 6, 12, etc. After reaching Tunxi, you can visit the Tunxi Old Street, Longshan Temple and join the Xin'an River Night Cruise. To ensure time is enough for you to enjoy the trip in Tunxi and transfer to Yixian country timely, you are suggested to take a morning train from Huangshan city to Tunxi.

After that, you may start from Tunxi to Yixian County by railway. The Huangshan Railway Station (also called Tunxi Railway Station) provides the trains to Yixian. Yixian is about 40 kilometers from Tunxi and trains will spend about one hour reaching there.

They are the typical ancient villages preserved from Ming and Qing dynasty. There you can have a extraordinary feeling from the buildings and local people's life. The entrance charge for Huncun village is ¥80.00 net per person. This village's landform looks like the Chinese character “牛" from the bird's view. You can enjoy the view and stroll around there to the top of one's bent. Then, you can find the road leading to the Mt. Huangshan in Xidi or Hongcun. Both roads can take you to arrive at Tangkou Town, located at the foot of the Huangshan Mountain. If you get to Tangkou too in the late afternoon, you may accommodate in the town for one night and have a rest to wait for tomorrow's schedule. The following day, you can climb up the Huangshan Mountain.

I read "Extreme Backpacking" and tend to agree on the packing list. For myself, it looks quite similar.

My must-haves are as follows:-
1) Toilet rolls
2) Medication (in case of getting sick)
3) Good walking shoe
4) flip-flops
5) poncho / raincoats
6) torchlight (especially usefull in smaller towns like Songpan)
7) Simple Toiletries - your full facial regime would not work when you are fighting to catch up with sleep)
8) Hat (for sun and cold, depending)
9) Swiss army knife - to cut anything edible or unedible.
10) wetwipes
11) water bottle
12)CAMERA
13) charger
14) batteries
15) adapter
16)and of course some change of clothes
17) & $$$$, plastic
