A temple in Luang Prabang

1 Day to Royal Palace Museum, Pak Ou Caves, WatXieng Thong

In the morning, our guide will pick you up at the lobby of your hotel (booked independently) in the downtown area at the appointed time. Today you will have an escorted day tour to the Buddhist kingdom, Luang Prabang. We have selected some of the most important temples and sites for you to better understand Laos' rich Buddhist culture.

The Luang Prabang day trip first starts from the marvelous Royal Palace Museum, which houses many valuable and rare Buddha figurines. After that, you will board a boat for a relaxing cruise on the Mekong River to visit the mysterious Pak Ou Caves. On the way we will stop off at the small village of Ban Xang Hai, which is 3km away from Pak Ou Caves. In the village you can try some local homemade sticky rice wine. The shopkeeper will also show you how it is made. Continue the day trip from Luang Prabang to the Pak Ou Caves in Ban Shang Hai village. The caves used to be a sacred place to pray for rain and the caves are crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues, all are the classical Luang Prabang standing Buddha in various shapes and sizes.

In the afternoon, have an easy Luang Prabang city tour to WatXieng Thong. It was built by King Saisetthathirat in 1560, and was under royal protection until 1975. Being the most majestic and beautiful temple in LuangPrabang, you should not leave it off your itinerary. Then visit the stupa of WatVisoun, which is the most ancient temple in Luang Prabang. It was destroyed by fire during the war but has since been refurbished with several austere pagodas. After that, we will climb up to Phousi Hill for a panoramic view of Luang Prabang town from the top before we transfer you back to the hotel.
