Before we arrived in Shanghai, Sasa, our tour guide had already made contact with us via WeChat which made us really look forward to our holidays and felt welcomed. She is friendly, knowledgeable and very accomodating and made sure that we are comfortable with the hot weather. She is really good in taking lots of beautiful photos for us. The highlight for me was that she has bought a birthday cake for me and delivered to my hotel on my birthday which was so touching. We really enjoyed our short stay in Shanghai especially to Tongli where Sasa brought us to the historic places and we got to experience the ancient water village. Will definitely recommend Sasa for her great customer service and friendliness. Less

Kevin Dong the tour guide who showed us Beijing was very efficient. We had a wonderful time viewing the Forbidden Palace and the Great Wall. Meals were excellent. I had a stomach problem and had to cancel our visit to Xian. Wendy and Cissy were very prompt and thorough in helping us change our hotel and train reservations. The resultant change in cost was also promptly refunded to us. The hotels in Beijing and Shanghai were quiet and comfortable. Hotel breakfasts were tasty, plentiful and sumptuous. Shanghai was exciting and impressive. We visited the Bund when it was not too busy. The boat tour gave us a leisurely view on board. Sophie Li was very informative in her descriptions of the development of the Pudong district. We went up the Yunduo bookstore and had a complementary drink while high up in the skyline of Shanghai. Yu Garden was a bit crowded though the stone dragon sculptures reclining on the top edge of the garden walls added a fun atmosphere to the stroll. Less

Although we went to more places than we had expected, it seems as though one day was not enough for our stay in Shanghai. Starting with the Shanghai Museum, we were very lucky to be able to experience the majestic Persian Exhibition. After the museum, we went to have the most exquisite lunch of our entire trip at the Shanghai Chic. Then we went to the Yu Garden. We learned about the hidden secrets of the garden that our guide, Ryan, enlightened us with about many Chinese architectural designs. Next, Ryan took us to a hidden viewpoint that showcased the stark contrast between old and new buildings in the area. The next location we went to was the Jinmao Tower. To have a very great panoramic view, which was slightly unnerving, was amazing. We had extra time, so we went to the Shanghai Aquarium. Overall, the trip was very informative, thanks to our guide, Ryan, who could speak superb English and was very knowledgeable. Shanghai was our first two days of a 22-day private tour of China, all arranged by Travel China. Sally Si was our consultant and patiently worked with us to build an itinerary designed just for us.

Martin was our guide in Shanghai, and we had made contact with him through the app WeChat prior to our arrival.

We got into Shanghai international airport and Martin was waiting at the gate with our name on a board, and the driver and car was waiting close by the doors.

Martin was excellent. Being the first city of our visit to China, we had lots of questions and he was very helpful. We discussed our next two days, and, at our request, didn’t go to the hotel first but we’re straight into things with a visit to the Shanghai Tower. The view from the top was awesome.

Martin helped us with planning a visit to the Yu gardens (which wasn’t on our itinerary ) and took us first to the hotel to drop our bags, then dropped us in the area of the Yu Gardens with a good plan on how to do things, get lunch, and get back to the hotel via a walk along the Bund.

We enjoyed Yu Gardens, had our first try at local food, and enjoyed the long walk back to the hotel along the river.
We wanted to go to an evening show, and on Martins advice went to Shanghai Circus World. Martin bought the tickets for us online, then turned up at the Hotel in the evening to help us get a Taxi (DiDi) and rode with us to the event. He was willing to wait for us outside to ensure we got back ok, but we had now learnt DiDi so we’re confident we could get back fine. The show was a lot of fun, quite spectacular, and we recommend it.

The next day Martin first took us to the French Concession area for a tour on foot, then drove us out to the Zhujiajia water town. This was a historic town, now mainly markets of food and art. Very interesting and we stayed a few hours exploring.

Martin then took us to a hotel that was at ‘the centre of Shanghai’, something that was not on our itinerary.

We then went to one of the Shanghai train stations to catch a bullet train to our next destination. Our tickets had been pre booked and linked to our passports, and we used our passports to get into the station, then (20 minutes prior to train departure) through the right gate and onto the train platform. The station was huge and impressive. The trains even more so, and run exactly on time. Martin saw us through right to the correct gate and waited until we had got through the gate. He was extremely helpful.

We enjoyed Shanghai. It’s modern, clean, spectacular at night, and certainly worth visit.
