Weekend with my husband in Beijing
We are so lucky to visit Beijing with our guide, Rocky. The 2 days were full with nice places and he told a lot of interesting stories about them. We got a little closer to know the Chinese history, in this way was much more better then only reading about them from the web or books. He helped us to choose restaurant to eat, made our staying in the big city more comfortable. An extra point: he took beautiful pictures with his camera of the places and us. I will go to China.
If you read my title maybe you think "Why do you review if you did not go to China?"

The answer is that I want to acknowledge the entire process of planning and canceling our trip due to the pandemic. I contacted Travel China Guide Tours on October maybe November 2019. I was lucky that my travel consultant was Lexi, a very professional, friendly and always ready to help young woman. All my questions and interests were answered within 24 hours. Incredible thing when we live on the other side of the globe. When our itinerary was excellent and we deposited 33% of the total cost, the Corona Virus emergency appeared. The company was at all times concerned about our trip and when we decided that we were unable to go due to this worldwide emergency, the tour was canceled and we were reimbursed with 100% of our deposit. Only a prestigious company is capable of serving its clients the way we were treated. I highly recommend Travel China Guide Tours and Lexi Yang their Travel Consultant. And I end by saying: I will go to China. Less

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic struck and we had to cancel our tour just a few weeks after wiring the entire balance due to China. To be honest, I wondered if we would ever see our refund, but Emily came through. Once again, her communication was excellent.

We truly hope to make it to China at some point in the future and I will not hesitate to book a tour with China Tour Guide again. Less

Our tour started with 2 days in Beijing where we visited the Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, Forbidden City, Hutongs and the Great Wall at Mutianyu - with a beautiful sprinkling of snow. Yes it was cold but nothing a few layers of clothes didn’t fix and there were no crowds. Almost had the place to ourselves - it was fantastic to finally visit.

We then traveled by high speed train, after our guide assisted us through the checking in process, onto Pingyao. What a beautiful place! It was like stepping back in history. We stayed at a gorgeous hotel - the Yide Hotel, we had a courtyard to ourselves. Everyone was so lovely.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in this pretty place.

Next we traveled to Xi’an and had the pleasure of visiting the Terra-cotta Warriors, City Wall and the Big Wild Goose pagoda. Another city full of ancient history and wonders.

Following Xi’an we flew to Harbin and visited the exquisite Ice and Snow festival, Sun Island Snow sculptors, the Zhaolin Ice Lanterns as well as the amusement park on the Songhua river - a lot of laughs were had! We have waited a long time for an opportunity to visit the Ice and Snow festival and was in total awe of it! Could’ve spent longer here to fully take it all in.

We then finished our tour with a day in Shanghai.

Overall we had a wonderful time with very professional and helpful guides. They all ensured our every needs were met, checked us into our hotels, transport and other activities we wanted to go to.

We will definitely be recommending Travel China Guide and visiting China in Winter! Thanks for a wonderful itinerary and experience! Less

An excellent tour of Xi'an -3 nights and 4 days in Xi'an
My wife and I were part of a small group tour with Travel China Guide that included 11 nights/12 days in 4 different cities in China, starting in Beijing, then Xi'an, followed by Guilin and finally Shanghai.

We had 3 nights and 2 full days in Xi'an where our guide was Lily, an experienced veteran guide with Travel China Guide. Lily was heads and shoulders above a typical guide, taking excellent care of us from our afternoon arrival in Xi'an airport (day 1 of our 4 days in Xi'an) to our More

Lily was heads and shoulders above a typical guide, taking excellent care of us from our afternoon arrival in Xi'an airport (day 1 of our 4 days in Xi'an) to our departure flight on the 4th day morning to Guilin, out of Xi'an airport.

We were accommodated in the Sheraton Hotel in Xi'an. Over the next two days and nights, Lily took us on tours to the Terracotta Warriors (Terracotta Army), Small Wild Goose Pagoda, Xi'an Museum, the City Wall Park and the Great Mosque in Xi'an. Taichi lessons in the City Wall Park and the Caligraphy class near the Pagoda were unforgettable experiences! We also had great lunches and dinners on these days, and Lily took great care of all of our dietary needs, including those of a couple of vegetarians, ensuring the vegetarians got a great selection of meals in the restaurant in Muslim Quarters as well as the wonderful opportunity we had when visiting a traditional family to have lunch with the family.

Lily gave us an excellent overview of the history of Xi'an and the various dynasties - specifically Tang and Ming - and the details behind the various monuments and museums we visited.

I'd say that Lily was the best guide ever I had in all my years of traveling in different parts of the world. Thanks to Lily, we had an upgraded flight (from economy to first class/front cabin) out of Xi'an to Guilin!

I also recommend Travel China Guide to anyone who wants to have a great travel experience in China (espcially, any first time visitor to China- I was one)! Less

    Excellent 16 day private tour
Travel China Guide (TCG) arranged a private 16 day tour for us visiting Shanghai - Beijing and the Great Wall - Pingyao - Xian - Chengdu - Guilin and Yangshuo. I have no hesitation in recommending them. They were good value when compared with other Chinese tour operators and much better value than well known UK companies who also priced our itinerary.

I have no hesitation in recommending them. They were good value when compared with other Chinese tour operators and much better value than well known UK companies who also priced our itinerary.

Kelly Wang was our excellent travel consultant who I dealt with by email over a 2-3 month period in autumn 2018 to develop the itinerary that we wanted. Our tour was completed in October 2019. We had a fairly detailed draft itinerary but Kelly helped us refine it and booked all the internal high speed rail travel, hotels, activities and of course arranged for the guides and drivers who escorted us. Kelly even came to our rescue when we had an incident at one of our hotels and decided to move on early. She efficiently re-arranged travel to our next location and negotiated with the hotel. We booked our flights to China and extensions to the tour that took us to Hong Kong and Singapore.

The arrangements all worked well. The guides were all waiting for us at the airport or train stations and made sure we got on the right trains as moved around the country. They were all friendly and helpful. Several arranged extra activities that we only found out about when we arrived. Most spoke and understood English well. They were knowledgeable although a couple were relatively young and inexperienced. All the cars we hand their drivers were good apart from one car that was a bit scruffy. All the drivers were courteous and also went out of their way on occasions to take us to places not on our original itinerary.

The highlights of our tour were Beijing and the Great Wall, Xian and the Terracotta Army and Chengdu and the Panda Research Station. If I was planning the trip again I would skip Pingyao - ancient walled city but very touristy - and the Li River cruise - pretty if the weather is good but another tourist magnet.

My other advice would be watch out for battery operated scooters in the cities, they are everywhere and you don't hear them coming! Do travel by the world class high speed trains and do it in first - it's not much extra and is much more comfortable as the trains are busy. Use at least 4* hotels and think carefully about any that are described as boutique, historic or character hotels. They may be different but not alway in the best way.

The TCG website has a wealth of information that's really useful for research.

Finally, do go and visit China. You'll not be disappointed First world, third world, rich history and culture, stunning scenery, beautiful buildings, thousands of ugly modern apartment blocks, traditional skills and cutting edge technology. It's got it all. Less

And then when my wife became very ill, Maggie changed our entire tour plan around to escort us to and around the International Hospital in Beijing. She even stayed with us and helped my wife through preliminary tests and x-rays as she had become very weak. Later Maggie would run out for food while my wife and I remained at the hospital. Ocean is well adept in English which surprised me so it made it even a more enjoyable exchange rather than struggling with the language barrier which is common when visiting new countries. Nothing more frustrating than the inability to communicate. Hands down, Ocean grasps English very well, so this will not be an issue.

Proud to say that I highly recommend that you ask for Ocean Li in your next vacation. Won’t regret it. He is highly respectful and I would declare a shared camaraderie with him. We teased him but he took it in stride. Awesome man.

In fact, during our Free Day, Ocean was accessible to help us navigate through the city when we were lost while looking for a restaurant that he recommended to try. He brought us to an excellent restaurant that presents classic Shanghai cuisine. And yes it was good. Flavourful and more volume than we can muster.

One other aspect about Ocean is his concern for your safety. Without hesitation he warned us of potential hazards a tourist may encounter. Although there were no circumstances that would raise alarm bells, it was good to know that we should still raise our awareness. And Ocean was forthcoming with his warning.

Ocean is very knowledgeable of his city and does take pride of Shanghai. He delivered the nuances of the city sights with ease. It didn’t feel like school but more of learning insights of some of the recent events in the city and of course the legacy.

Without a doubt the vacation in Shanghai is excellent. Again all in part of Ocean. Less

Her English is very good and she is extremely knowledgeable about Shanghai and China. Moreover, she was attentive and caring at all times.

Our plane from Chengdu was 3 hours late but Sophie was right on time to meet us at the airport.

En route to the hotel, I asked if she knew anyone who could help me. I was meeting my elderly brother who lives in Shanghai and who speaks little English. Sophie volunteered without any hesitation.

She stayed with us for the whole evening and enabled my brother and me to communicate with each other. And, at the end of the evening, she saw him safely home.

How incredible - and helpful - that was!

Needless to say, if ever I visited Shanghai again, Sophie would definitely be my first choice! Less

One personal regret was that I could not go to JiuZhaiGou, the site not being opened to foreigners (I was duly informed when I made the trip reservation); Nonetheless, I did see so many beautiful and interesting spots that it is only but a further motivation to come back. The epitome was obviously the Panda base, but just to state a few amongst others, I liked in particular LeShan big Buddha, Emei shan, QingCheng shan (the birth place of Taoism) and Dujiangyan, the irrigation system which has been in use for some 1500 years!
I also enjoyed the food which eventually was not as spicy as I could have feared. Hum, this was again thanks to Lisa's good care who made sure that the dishes would be adapted to my european palate!
In short, this trip has been a real match, it will remain vivid in my memory. Great thanks to all who took part to its flawless organization and made it so peasant. Less

We went and visited Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, Jinli street, wide and narrow alley, Jinsga site museum and Leshan Giant Buddha.
The only dissapointment was only at the Giant Panda Breeding as we could not touch and take photo with young Panda. The research base was packed with people therefore it was hardly to see the overall attraction. This place is much suitable for family with children. However we were happy at least we knew this famous attraction.
We hope we can return someday for more relax holiday in Chengdu and
    Visit Emeishan, Hongzhushan forest. Less

Great Tour Guide Service - Chengdu
Jack was our TravelChinaGuide tour guide in Chengdu. Jack and the driver who was arranged for us made our trip to Chengdu quite memorable. But he put all that to good use by pushing us to our limits and making us explore every aspect of any site or attraction we visited. It was clear that he had meticulously researched about every More

It was clear that he had meticulously researched about every site we visited.

He was very considerate and proactively offered to help us order meals at restaurants. He helped us shop at a local grocery store and went above and beyond to drop those groceries at the high-rise condo we rented. We would also want to mention the driver who was arranged for us. She was the only female driver that was allotted during our travel in China. Even she was quite considerate. It is a pity we failed to learn her name. Public park, Panda Research Reserve, and Leshan Giant Buddha are top attractions to visit in Chengdu. Overall, we very highly recommend taking a tour with Jack. Less

    An incredible tour!
Our guide, Tracy, was our TravelChinaGuide.com guide for the days we were in Chengdu. Knowledgeable and responsible, Tracy kept our group together, giving us clear explanations as we went around her city - the Panda Breeding Centre, the Broad & Narrow Alleys, the Jinsha Site Museum, and the beautiful People's Park, especially the matchmakers' corner, where Tracy translated the pages about lonely hearts and we watched the mothers exchange information about their unmarried children. Absolutely fascinating! Tracy has much charm and great communication skills. It made such a difference to our wonderful stay in Chengdu. Tracy looked after us very well, making sure we had the best experiences on our first trip to China.
    Thank you Tracy! Less

    Bucket List Panda/Chengdu tour!!
I went on this tour as part of my first time in China, and initially was a little bit nervous to go by myself. However, Travel China Guide set up this experience and the process could not have been smoother. From the wonderful hotel room to the amazing service and activity schedule this entire experience was one of my favorite things I’ve ever done. Rush was my guide and yet it was more like my little brother was taking me around to see his country and that made it so much more personable and so much more fun than I’d ever imagined! He took the best pictures of me with the pandas and everywhere else, including the goofy funny ones, and gave me such great background on the people and the traditions that were evident in the Broad and Narrow Alleys and museum in Chengdu. He adjusted itinerary because of my flight time so I could have the best experience possible which gave him a long day after picking me up late the night before from the airport. Most touching, I was on this trip over my birthday and was missing my friends and he surprised me with a cake in my hotel room that evening! I feel so lucky that I got to meet Rush and go on this trip and I cannot recommend him and Travel China Guide enough. I definitely want to come back to China! Less
