Hi,

Is it possible to travel from Tibet (Lake Manasarovar/Mt. Kailash area) to Kashgar by road?

Yes, the Lake Manasarovar and the Mt. Kailash is located in the Ngari Region of Tibet. The New Xinjiang-Tibet Highway has connected Ngari to Karshgar already.

Thanks for the reply! Is the road open to foreign tourists? I read in a tour book that at times it is closed. I'm a US citizen.

Of course it is! Haven't heard the news that the road is closed to foreigners. But, you must participate in a tour group since foreign travelers are not ot travel in Tibet alone.
