Hi,

I'm an American currently in China on a 3-month multiple entry L tourist visa, traveling and studying the language. I would like to stay a further three months. Is it possible to extend or apply for a new visa in China? If not, could I have a new visa issued in Hong Kong? I've heard that they've stopped accepting applications from residents of other countries, and I don't want to fly there if it means I won't be able to get one.

I just know that Kunming Nanyao Bus Station in Beijing Rd has two buses a day to Hekou, the border to Vietnam. There is a night bus and a day bus (departing in the afternoon and early morning). The time seems to be 9:40am, 13:40. You need to confirm the time in advance. It needs 10 hours to Hekou. Due to the completion of Menghe Express way in the end of 2008, the time should have been shortened to 4.5 hours or so. Passing thourgh Hekou, you will arrive in Lao Cai of Vietnam. There is still long distance to Hanoi and another part of Vietnam. As for other information, you need to ask the local people for help.

The city is warm throughout a year. In December, a thin sweater in enough during the daytime (around 15C)but another warm jacket or a down jacket is needed at night due to the great temperature variation.

Regarding the transportation, you could fly from KUL directly or fly via Guangzhou.
