The intermediate stations along the way include Kunshan, Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, Nanjing, Chuzhou North, Mingguang, Bengbu, Suzhou [Anhui], Xuzhou, Xiayixian, Dangshan, Shangqiu, Ninglingxian, Minquan, Lankao, Kaifeng, Zhengzhou, Gongyi, and Yanshi.

 Overnight Sleeper Trains
Among all of them, K292, K378, K362, K738, K560, and Z40 are recommended because they all run overnight, equipped with sleepers. Traveling by them will save you one-night accommodation fee and day time. However, you should buy the sleepers in advance because they are usually in great demands.

The bullet D306/D308 is also a pair of overnight sleeper trains, but they are not advised, because their ticket price is much higher than the normal types, albeit its running time is still as long as 9 hours. The ticket fare of soft sleeper on D306/D308 is twice of that on normal types, let alone the ticket fare of deluxe soft sleeper, which is almost the same as the flight tickets, or even higher than air tickets in low seasons. There are also second class seats on D306/D308, but it is not advised because they are transformed from soft sleepers, and you won't feel comfortable without real seatbacks.

Major cities along the way

Kunshan is the cradle of Kun Opera, so when you go there, you can listen to the Kun Opera to experience the Chinese traditional theatrical music and visit the Museum of Kun Opera to know about its history. In additional, the city also has beautiful natural scenery. You can go to the Yangcheng Lake and Dianshan Lake to appreciate breath-taking views and eat the delicious seafood. Traveling by rail to Kunshan is highly recommended. You can also go to other places easily from here either by ordinary or high speed trains.
Lying in east Henan Province, Kaifeng is renowned as one of the Seven Ancient Capitals of China. Because the city has a long history of more than 2,700 years, you can find a lot of cultural relics and historic sites here, such as Iron Pagoda, Dragon Pavilion, Memorial Temple of Lord Bao, Kaifeng Yamun, Xiangguo Temple. Both ordinary and bullet trains are available here, so it's convenient for you to reach or leave this city.

This is a possible way, but still a little risky. During normal time, it should be fine, you can pay a difference to extend the trip. If there is no seats, you can stand for the rest of the trip. However, I suppose you may travel during the holiday time? If the train is extremely full, the staff may refuse to do so. Therefore, there is still a little risky. It would be better if you can find another tickets from Zhengzhou to Luoyang.
