Shanghai Transportation - By Taxi

Shanghai Taxi
Shanghai has approximately 45,000 taxis, operated by over 150 taxi companies. Several companies have taxis in their own colors. There are seven more popular companies - Dazhong Taxi Company with their cars in sky blue; Qiangsheng with their cars in orange; Jinjiang white; Bashi green; Haibo sapphire blue; Fanlanhong red; and Lanse Lianmeng in navy blue. Of all the taxi companies, Dazhong and Qiangsheng are most strongly recommended.

Taking taxis in Shanghai is more expensive than in other cities. In the daytime, the price is CNY11 for the first three kilometers (1.9 miles), an additional charge of CNY2.1 for every succeeding kilometer within 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) and CNY3.2 for every succeeding kilometer after 10 kilometers.

At night from 23:00 to 5:00 the next morning, the taxi fare is CNY14 for the first three kilometers, an additional charge of CNY2.7 for every succeeding kilometer within 10 kilometers and CNY4.1 for every succeeding kilometer after 10 kilometers. You can bargain over prices when taking taxis at night.

Whether you take a taxi during daytime or at night, CNY2.1 will be added for every five minutes of stop time.

Taxis in suburbs of Shanghai usually charge less. The price is CNY9 for the first three kilometers (1.9 miles) and CNY2.1 for every succeeding kilometer.

Please note the charge will be rounded when you pay and Shanghai Public Transportation Card can be used on most taxis. Anything unreasonable, you may file a complaint by calling 021-63232150 or to the specific taxi company by telephoning the number displayed on the car.

Hi, I'm travelling to Shanghai airport in october. As we are a large group (14) will we all be able to get in a couple of large minibus style taxis rather than lots of small taxis?
Thanks

To Mr white.
Hello. The taxi fare is about 150-170rmb. You have 14 people and should take 4 taxis. To have minibus: luxcury 7 seats vehicle: about 260 for single trip. It depends on vehicles. So, you can get the answer. :)

Ms.Evelyn(China) replied:

The cheapest transportation is by Airport Line 2. The ticket is CNY22. Just get off at Jingan Temple stop. Then, you can walk to the hotel from the Jingan Temple stop. See this page for the details of the Aiport Line 2.

You can also take the airport bus at Jing'an Temple to go to Hongqiao airport.

hi can anyone tell me if the Mayfair Hotel Shanghai have a shuttle bus service that goes from the airport to the hotel? If not how i can get there.

Jun. 15,2009 22:49
Mr.Evelyn replied:

There are two airports in Shanghai. I don’t know which airport you will arrive at. Just provide all the information here. The hotel is near to Zhongshan Park.
From Hongqiao Airport to the hotel: Take Bus No.941 at Hongqiao Airport and then get off at Zhongshan Park.
From Pudong Airport to the hotel: Take the Airport Line 2 and get off at the Terminal Building Station (only one stop’s drive). Then, transfer to the Metro Line 2 and get off at Zhongshan Park.

Yes, there are bullet trains from Shanghai railway station to Kunshan. It takes about 30 minutes to get to Kunshan by bullet train. The ticket is CNY16/ CNY19.
The airport buses to Kunshan are available in Pudong airport. The buses depart hourly from 10:30 to 19:30. The ticket is CNY76.

I would like to know is there any 6 people taxi to Jian An District. How long does it take & approximately how much will it cost? I've booked a Youth Hostel in Jiaozhpou Road in Jian An District, if I take the airport bus (line 2) which is the nearest stop? Appreciate your help. Tks!

Jun. 7,2009 02:10
Mr.Qi replied:

Hi, Mr. Ip.
No 6 people taxi in Shanghai. It can carry 4 adults. I guess you are saying Jing'an District?! It should be some 150rmb that is needed for the taxi fare from airport to the area. Do you mean the Letour Youth Hostel?! Take Subway Line 2 and get off at Jing'an Temple. The hotel is walking distance (about 10 minutes) from the station.
