Hi!!

I took a trip to Shapotou in Zhongwei, Ningxia, a BEAUTIFUL tourist area where Yellow River meets Tangeer Desert!

It's a place I highly recommend those seeking unconventional adventure to visit, because on the whole not a lot of foreign visitors choose Shapotou as a stop in China (though I did bump into quite a number of them).

Some of the activities are too touristy, but one thing I think you should consider doing (that I didn't have the time to do) is to take that 5-6 hour camel ride all the way across Tangeer Desert and reach the lake, it looked like an absolutely unique experience.

Another thing (with the exception of Shapotou itself) to consider is that Ningxia is very cheap compared to Beijing and other places, taxi rides within the city is within 5rmb, food (lamb) is great, people are friendly though they haven't really seen any foreigners ever.

On the way to Shapotou (when I was inside the bus) I saw some pretty interesting irrigation channels inviting the water from the Yellow River to farmlands, I read somewhere later that this unique invention was invented thousands of years ago and was still being used today.

Hope this inspires you to go!!
