Left luggage in Kunming train station
I have a layover of a few hours in Kunming on the way to Lijiang by train at night. is there a left luggage service at the train station? Would I be too late to buy train ticket around noon time for the night train to Lijiang?

Yes, there is. On the east side of the first floor in railway station. No matter how big or small your luggage is, each piece is CNY5 per day. Please note that the cloakroom will be open until 23:00 each day. If you have passed 23:00, you will have to wait until 6:00 the next day to get your luggage back.

You are advised to buy the tickets to Lijiang and collect the tickets in advance so that it can help you save much time and make your travel go smooth.

We arrive in Kunming on Sept.6 and would like to catch the night bus or train to Dali or Lijiang ASAP. Is it necessary to book in advance or is it easy to book on arrival?

Do not need to book if traving by bus. Better book if traveling by train. However, it is not easy for foreign visitors to book the ticket, unless through a agency. You can get to Kunming railway station to ask if there is still tickets left, if not, you can get to the bus station by taxi to catch the buses. It is faster to take bus from Kunming to Dali, only about 4 hours. Recommend you go by bus, at Kunming Nanyao Bus Station. :-)
