What do yuo mean by best location?
The city center? It should be Jinbi Square.
The most popular attraction site? It should be Stone Forest.

Walk from where you are to Kunming Railway Station bus stop to take bus no. 44 or 24 to get off at Yunnan Ethnic Village. Then at the scenic area, take cable car to Taihua Resort/Village (Taihua Shanzhuang), which is within walking distance from the hills.

Hi - I was recently given an old picture of a temple altar and on the back is written: "Buddha, in Shee Shan Temple (West Mountain Temple near Kunming China)". Can you help me learn more about this temple? Thank you!

Actually, both Huating Temple and Taihua Temple are on Western Hills. Huating Temple is one of the largest Buddhist temples in Yunnan Province. In the temple you can see three golden Buddha figures with kindly expressions, 500 life-like arhats which are vivid just like real people, and golden figures of Laughing Buddha. Taihua Temple is the oldest one in the Hills. The temple is famous for the beautiful rare flowers on the grounds.
I think you mean one of them.
