Location: Weinan is situated in the east-central area of Shaanxi Province, separated from Shanxi and Henan provinces by the Yellow River. It is bordered by Xian in the west, and neighboring Yan'an in the north. The Qinling Mountain in the south is the boundary between Weinan and Shangluo.     

History: Over two thousand years after the Zhou Dynasty (11th century BC-221BC), Weinan was protected by the emperors of twelve dynasties as a capital suburb and gradually became advanced in agricultural and handicraft industries, as well as in commerce and transportation. It was not until 1723 when the Qing government established eight counties and prefectures in this region that the current administrative framework of Weinan began to show its early form.      

Physical Features: The Weihe River flows through the city forming the central fluvial plain of the city. Outlining the plain, are two mountains located in its northern and southern parts. The Weihe River connects with the Yellow River as it winds southward along the eastern edge of the city.    

Climate: Weinan lies in a warm temperate zone bearing a continental semi-humid, semi-dry monsoon climate, featuring four evident seasons and abundant sunshine. Winter is cold and dry, while summer is hot. The annual average temperature stays between 11.3-13.5℃ (52.3-56.3℉).   

When to Go: Spring and autumn. 

Special Local Product: Ganoderma Lucidum mushroom (Lingzhi—a type of bracket mushroom used in traditional Chinese herbal medicine) of Mt. Huashan, sauce vegetable of Tongguan County, dried persimmon and Qiong Guo Tang (a kind of candy) of Fuping County, apples and pears.    

  Attractions:
Mt. Huashan: Located in Huayin County, 120 kilometers (75miles) from Xian, Mt. Huashan is known as the most precipitous mountain under heaven and ranks as one of the five most famous mountains in China. Consisting of five perilous peaks, the mountain displays spectacular and fascinating landscapes allowing visitors inspirational and breathtaking experiences. The Xiyue Temple, the best temple of the 'five famous mountains' is 5 kilometers (3 miles) north of the Mt. Huashan.  Xiyue Temple is also an essential part of the experience of  Mt Huashan.  

Longmen Scenic Area: Longmen Town is 30 kilometers (19 miles) north of Hancheng City. A vital part of the Qin-Jin Gorge that is regarded as the 'Three Gorges in Northern China', Longmen delivers grand scenes of the Yellow River and boasts the shortest bridge across the great river. 

Other Scenic Spots: Dang Village, Confucius Temple, Sima Qian Temple, Mount Shaohua, Qiachuan Scenic Area

Travel Tips: There are buses to Weinan from the Xian City Bus Station and the East Station. The journey is 62 kilometers (39 miles) by bus, or about an hour's drive. The Weinan bus terminal is located on Xitong Lu, in downtown Weinan.

woo,the local told me that the city's shi chen bao zi, name of a kind of meat bun, is delicious. What a pity that I missed it there!

It's steamed bun. I think Shanghai small steamed bun, xiao long bao in Chinese, is more delicious.
