Lhasa Weather in November

As the holy city of the snowy plateau, Lhasa turns from autumn to winter in November. However, there is no big temperature difference between Lhasa and plains areas in the daytime due to the strong sunshine. The weather is quite warm at noon. However, the temperature is low at night and the last greenish tinge has left in many areas on this plateau. Thus, it is not a good time to visit Lhasa in November unless you want to explore the different highland landscape.

It's worth mentioning that you may get a better offer when there are comparatively few tourists. Most scenic spots within Lhasa city are not affected by the cycle of the seasons, so you can savor the local culture.

What to Wear in Lhasa in November

Make sure to bring winter clothing such as thermal underwear, a heavy jacket and a sweater because of the climate in November in Lhasa. Also, include special winter clothing like a waterproof jacket or a down jacket in case it snows. For those who dislike the cold, they are advised to buy an electric blanket for sleeping, or to stay in hotels equipped with heat. Sunglasses, sunhat, sunscreen and lip balm are always required in Lhasa. Masks are advisable if there is a wind.

Where to Go in Lhasa in November

With dry and windy weather, the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is getting cold at this time of the year, so it is suggested that tourists visit Lhasa city and scenic spots nearby only. Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, and Norbulingka are good choices. Namtso Lake is beautiful now, but visitors should never take chances in case of heavy snow. For accommodations, there are youth hostels near Barkhor Street, where visitors will get a close view of ancient Lhasa and its local culture.

The oxygen level decreases in winter so make sure to have a good rest after your arrival. Do not run or walk too fast, or overeat especially for dinner. Because of the dry weather, it is suggested you eat more fruits and vegetables to increase fluid intake.
