How Many Days will be Needed to Take an Egypt Cruise?

What Kind of Routes do the Nile Cruises Have?

The Nile cruises include the routes between Cairo and Luxor, Cairo and Aswan, Luxor and Aswan, the round trip from and to Luxor or Aswan, and the Lake Nasser route which is between Aswan and Abu Simbel. The cruise route between Luxor and Aswan is the most popular one which takes 4 or 5 days. This type of cruise is relatively small, besides the ordinary docking points of Edfu and Kom Ombo, it can sail to some places that are not easy to be reached by large cruises, such as some peaceful islands and villages. So the sailing time is longer. Dahabiya usually relies on the wind to propel the sail and uses an engine only when the wind is not strong enough to sail. The sailing routes are between Luxor and Aswan with 6-8 days and between Esna and Aswan with 4-5 days. Dahabiya has around 10 crews with 5-7 cabins and suites which can accommodate 10-15 passengers. On Dahabiya cruise, you can trace the romance of the past, enjoy traditional foods and considerate personal service.

Is Tipping Customary in Egypt?

Yes, tipping in Egypt is customary, even if you ask for directions or use toilet, 5 Egyptian pounds will be fine. You may refer to the following tip standards:
For hotel porters: 10-20 Egyptian pounds per suitcase.
For porters at the railway station: 20 Egyptian pounds per suitcase to the luggage porter. There is no escalator at the railway stations, only stairs.
For taxi drivers or servers in restaurants: 20 Egyptian pounds.
As tipping is very common in Egypt, you may bring more 5, 10, and 20 Egyptian pounds with you for convenience.
