Day 2 North tour of Amman to Jerash, Ajloun
After breakfast, our English-speaking driver will take you to the Roman Ruins of Jerash located 50 km (31 mi) from Amman. Jerash, once a part of Decapolis League ruled by Pompey, has one of the best preserved sites of prominent Roman structures outside Italy. Inside the city, there are colonnaded streets and grand hippodrome, theaters, temples and baths. The site covers a large area and the sightseeing usually requires half a day. It is suggested that you wear a pair of comfortable walking shoes, bring enough water and food, and protect yourself from sunburn.

Next, we will drive north to visit Ajloun Castle situated on a hilltop of Mount Ajloun. It is a 12th-century fortress built under the command of Muslim military leader Saladin to protect the city against Crusader attacks. From the top of the fortress, you could overlook the entire Jordan Valley and neighboring desert landscape. When the visit is finished, we will send you back to your hotel.

In the early morning, the driver will transfer you to Madaba, the ancient city of mosaics, a must-see destination. There you will first visit the Church of Saint George internationally famous for a Byzantine-ear mosaic map showing astounding details of the Holy Land sites. Then we will take you to Madaba Archaeological Park, an open-air museum showcasing the ruins of old civilizations and some finest mosaics collected from Madaba area. The Virgin Mary Church inside built in the 6th century is definitely worth a visit.

Afterwards, we will go to the Mount Nebo, one of the holiest sites in Jordan. It is believed that God showed Moses the Holy Land over there and Moses might be buried somewhere on the mountain after death. Later, we will drive to the Dead Sea, jokingly called the "the navel of the world" for being the world's lowest point on the earth surface. As a scenic hypersaline lake, Dead Sea offers plenty of interesting activities for visitors. You could enjoy a wonderful time floating in the mineral water while reading, experiencing a magical mud skin care, hiking to nearby salt caves or just simply viewing a beautiful sunset.
