Hi, I'm planning to travel to Urumqi and Kashgar in August. All tours offer transfers by plane. Is there a way to travel by road? Thanks.

Yes, there is bus at that time. The distance is over 400kms. However, the road situation is so bad which will be a suffer to take a bus. And, the security is not assured, especially during the rainy season, when the road may be destroyed.

There is a high way to the city named Kucha on the midway and it is 750km from Urumqi. The rest parts of the way to Kashigar are rather good. The distance is about 1500km between Urumqi and Kashigar .I am from that place and I do know it is rarely rains there even in the Augusts .The security is also good nowadays, so please don’t worry about it .You can take the long distance bus or rent a car in Urumqi .

Welcome to Urumqi and Kashigar!

It is about 1500km between the two places. That is to say, it needs about 23 hours by train and about the whole day by bus. You can think about going by China Southern Airlines' flights, which seems to be a bit cheaper. Another suggestion: go by air one way. Indeed, there are many places to visit between these two places, such as Turpan, Korla, Luntai, Kuche and Aksu. You can make stopover at those places and take bus to the next. You need arrange a detailed plan.
