Wei, one of the seven powerful states in the Warring States group
(476 BC - 221 BC), built its walls in Hancheng
City, northeast of Xian. They were built to defend against
Qin attacks. The most prominent section of the wall is located
in Longting Village, about six miles south of Hancheng. The wall
is over twelve miles long with the highest section rising nearly
thirty-three feet for a distance of 470 yards.
In Huayin City, located between Hancheng and Xian, there are
some damaged sections of the Wei Wall. They extend to over three
miles with the biggest section about 400 yards long and twenty-three
feet tall. The wall was built by using rammed sandy earth. The
remaining relics of the fortress and beacon tower can also be
seen. These broken walls have provided precious data for scholars
to study that ancient dynasty.
