Rates at the monasteries we stayed at range from 30-60RMB, which is a steal. What is not so appealing are the communal squat toilets and cold showers. But then again, you are staying at a monastery. Also expect sutra chanting to last from 9 pm to 11 pm at night, and then starting up again at 5 am to 6:30 am (I think). We stayed at the one called "Tai Zi Ping" (Prince's Pavilion(?)). 2 monks and 3 nuns run the place. Very nice people. Very basic. All the rice and "mantou" you care to eat. No showers.

Generally, things are clean as long as you wear flip-flops and don't fall into anything by accident.

You can also, if you speak any Chinese, try to stay at a farmer's home. Most of the 100+ RMB hotels and guesthouses on the mountain are owned and run by non-locals, and so the money they make does not go to the locals. Staying at a farmer's home puts money back into the pockets of the locals, and their lodgings are usually just as good. We paid 100RMB/night at a village called "Shen Shui Ge" for a room with our own shower/squat toilet/sink bathroom, and we had a double bed with satellite TV. Bring your moth repellent, though.

Mealwise, since these farmers grow their own crops, the meals they serve you are plenty fresh, and we were even offered our own (very fat) fresh (and live) chicken for 160RMB - which is a slight rip-off, but at least you know what you're eating... :p

I am always longing for have a chance to watch the Fokuang (Light of Buddha) at Mt. Emeishan Golden Submit. However, I was told by the travel agency that this was a rare natural phenomenon that could hardly seen. I checked some useful information as following and would like to share with any one who interested:

When people stand at the Sheshen Cliff in a nice day at around 2-3pm,look down the cliff, sometimes they will find their shadow in the middle of floating clouds and multicolored halo. No matter how many people stand side-by-side, they will only see their own shadow in the middle. The past, no one can explain the phenomenon. In fact, it is a phenomenon of refraction the sunlight, the clouds and the human stands at the 45 degrees diagonal the light is slashed.
