The annual Yak Festival is an important festival in the Orkhon Valley of Uvurkhangai Province. The area is the home to the largest concentrations of yaks, which is celebrated in the festival. The nomadic herders of the region, during the month of May, come together to celebrate the festival. During the festival, talent shows, parades, and yak racing are organized. One of the biggest highlights of the festival is the Yak Lassoing Competition, where the participants riding on horses have to lasso the moving yaks.
 
 How to reach?
From Ulaanbaatar, tourists can take a private cab to Bat-ulziit soum. The distance between the two points is 433.8 km (270 mi), and can be covered in 7 to 8 hours. The roundabout trip can cost around US$ 30. There are no available bus routes between the two destinations.
 

2. Ulaanbaatar International Marathon

· Location: Ulaanbaatar

One of the biggest sporting activities of the city after the Naandam Festival, the Ulaanbaatar- International Marathon attracts a huge crowd. Most of the participants of the marathon belong to the professional racing circuit. However, the amateur racers participate in the race too. The race starts from Sukhbaatar, and takes the round of the city, and ends in the same point.

The capital city of Ulaanbaatar is well-connected to several international and domestic cities. Visitors willing to travel to Mongolia in May can either take a flight from China or Russian cities.
