Foshan Shopping

Foshan is a distinguished land of arts. Apart from the local specialities and snacks, such as Manggong Cake, taking back characteristic handicrafts is a wise choice to remind visitors. There are not only several shopping malls that can cater for visitors who wish to shop for brand names, but also some streets and lanes where a fine selection of folk handicrafts can be found.

Shiwan Town, in Chancheng District of Foshan, is praised to be the Southland Pottery metropolis having 5,000 years of history of ceramics. Today, an art gallery has been established here. Visitors can admire the pottery art and simultaneously chose their favorite pottery articles to buy.

First originating in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the New Year woodprints have developed in the city for five hundred years. They use local paint and the main themes are promotion, wealth, happiness, and longevity. They are decorative and perfectly show the local style.

The present Nanhai District is one of the cradles of Yue Embroidery which is among the four famous styles of embroidery in China. Nanhai Embroidery began to be well-known nationwide in the Tang Dynasty (618-907). The embroidery can be seen as the ambassador of the local folk arts.
