Leshan Giant Buddha
Leshan Buddha is the largest cliff sculpture in China with a height of 71 meters (233 feet). It is located on the east bank of Min River and by the confluence of Dadu River, Qingyi River and Min River. In ancient times, the water was quite tremendous and the boats were always overturned when reaching here. Believing the Buddha would help to reduce the water force, the monk Haitong accumulated the money and called upon people to start the excavation. After ninety years, the statue was made. And on both cliffs by the river are carved with one 16-meter-high (52-feet-high) Dharma King. Also, there are thousands of stone carvings in the hundreds of clichés on the cliff, forming a large Buddhist stone carving art group. There are both steps on both sides of the Buddha for tourists to admire it closely.
